^^ Heck yeah! fEARfuls up the wazzoo! I wonder which has more output/impact (given the same wattage); the Impaler or the 15/6-15sub combo? I will be building a 15-something in a few months. There's no portability at all to the Impaler...but when you can blow the blue off someone's blue jeans from 25 feet away, who cares about portability, right? Then again, I know a 15/6 has plenty of output and may just go that way.

Thanks! Actually the amp is right sized... each stack can do about 1,600 watts up to its excursion limit, so a 2k watt per side @ 4 ohm amp matches up real nice after leaving a bit for head room. Not that one generally needs to drive the stacks to that level, but playing outside with little or minimal PA support I have done it and it works just fine.

They are very similar actually... the 1515/66 is hotter in the mids, but I don't need the extra 6ND410 to get "my sound". So the modular stack works out to be just as loud for me. The only real difference is in the very bottom end but this is because the 1515/66 was built a bit shy in box volume and port size versus the fEarful spec.

I beg to differ. With its rear handles and tilt-back casters the 1515/66 is the easiest part of the rig to load in/out for me. The other two cabs and the rack all make you want a hand cart and/or a tote partner for the other side of the box if it has to move an appreciable distance. The 1515/666 is a grab and go proposition - just wheel it up the trailer ramp or slide it on its backside up the truck tailgate or onto the stage and Bob's your ankle [though I did need to add some rub rail/corner guards to get this level of convenience]. I find it much easier to move than my old Ampeg 810 - or even an Ampeg 4x10 - feels light as a feather by comparison.

Thanks for all the info, Foz! I forgot that you can build an Impaler with wheels and grab handles. Have you tried stacking the 15/6 and 15/sub so that the ports are together? Any advantage to that? Always wanted to ask this question. Great rig, Foz!

No I haven't - always figured I'd rather have at least one of the ports coupled to the floor.

Thanks for the recording advise (?) but this photo was taken during a mic shoot-out during pre-production. As you may or may not be aware, different sounds require different recording techniques.

I'm just remarking on how many mics there are. Pretty crazy! I often will put up a couple different mics to get an idea of which works best. RE20 is it more than half the time. I rarely (never actually) would think of using both a near and distant mic on a bass cab. Instant phase issue there.
I will say that the Summit 2ba221 is my favorite bass pre. It sounds awesome when you mix direct and miced bass through that thing. It also has this detail in the mids that really helps the bass stay distinct.

Its easily the greatest amp ive ever played through. I prefer the out of box tone of an Original Eden Hands down...but this thing has so much articulate power, its just silly.

also your settings are very similar to mine now had less bass on the go back then but very similar now!
