RIP Boz Burrell

I was bummed when I heard that! I learned and played a lot of Boz's work in my early days. I saw some cool recent stuff by Boz on Youtube too, still sounded great!

I know that we all have to go, but I just thought...I don't know, that he would be around for a bit longer.

This is ironic, because I just ordered a copy of "Ladies of the Road." Eventhough the King Crimson lineup that he was a part of was not the best in terms of recorded output, that album and other such recordings show that they were quite a live outfit. I really liked his tone on that album and his vocals were top notch. I read somewhere that Robert Fripp taught him to play bass so that he would be able to join the band.:eek: Seems to me like he learned pretty well.

I had the opportunity to see him back in '72 with Crimson at the Orpheum in Boston and he definitely inspired me at the time. In fact 'Islands' was me favorite KC album for quite a spell. And as others have said, his playing with Bad Company was a great example of solid rock playing.

Yes - "Islands" has been my favourite KC album for some time and his singing on that is great - the story goes that Robert Fripp taught him to play bass during the sessions for that album!

Holy ****. i used to work with Boz all the time. This is the first I've heard of this. I used to go to barbecues at his house in Chiswick, before he went to Spain. I'm stunned...

Thanks for posting this, I need to call some people. I'm very sad..

It is unique for Crimson and rock - but it does have links and similarities with British underground Jazz - Carla Bley,Keith Tippett etc.

The first and last tracks are very much from a sort of Free Jazz tradition that was very "English"...that's also part of what's really nice about Boz's voice on that album! :)

I know I'm way late to this. I just did a search on his name after realizing how cool his bass lines were. At times his lines were very unorthodox but seemed to always fit in somehow. I always took his playing for granted but recently started hearing stuff I hadn't before.
