RIP John Prine

I did not know John, but definitely knew of him and listened to his works over my many years.
We grew up in the same Chicago suburb Maywood IL. I lived there the first 12 years of my life.
Those were some of the greatest times for music IMHO, and much of it developed around Chicago.

RIP John.

I just read he said when he get’s to Heaven the first thing he is going to do is smoke a cigarette about 9 ft. long.

Actually, a cigarette 9 miles long. And a Vodka and Ginger Ale. And kiss the pretty girl on the tilt-a-whirl. From his song "When I get to Heaven". Pretty sure God will give him all that and more.

We need John now more than ever. RIP Mr. Prine. He had a natural way with honesty, comedy and being a good believable human being. Traits that are so rare these days.

When his first album came out with 'Hello In There' I was sixteen. I remember even at that young age what a poignant song about aging, now I'm sixty five and on the other side of that spectrum and realize John Prine has been with me for almost the whole ride. One of the best everyman/poet songwriters ever!
