RIP Johnny Winter

"Ain't Nothing To Me" My favorite Johnny Winter song.

Been listening to Mr. Winter since I was a know it all kid. I don't know near as much these days, but I do know I'll miss hearing Johnny play that guitar.

RIP John Dawson Winter III, you will be missed.

My band, Finnegan Davis, opened for Johnny, Edgar, Tommy Shannon and Uncle John Turner when they played at Pope John High School in Sparta, NJ in 1969. I learned a couple of things that night. One, I didn't know that someone could be that stoned. Two, I didn't know that someone could play with such passion and intensity. Johnny was a lithe cat as he strutted the stage. Edgar amazed with his rendition of Tobacco Road. Shannon and Turner taught me a lot about playing in the rhythm section. It was quite the epiphany for me. The Three-sided Second Winter album hit the stores a couple of weeks later. I so wore out the grooves. R.I.P., Johnny.
