Passed away today at 81. Many folks don't know he was a bassist. Also, he wrote a very helpful and practical book about the music business (Making It With Music).

Kenny passed away today (or yesterday) at age 81.

R.I.P. Kenny. I sold him a very nice Meade telescope in the mid '80s.

I thought about this song Kenny Rogers recorded with the First Edition about a man whose junk was shot off in Vietnam who feared his wife was cutting out on him. Dude had a nice Telecaster Bass even if I could not hear it in the mix.
That was a great tune, I was a teenager when that psychedelic AM radio tune came out. RIP Kenny.

My Beats has the bass booming for sure! I wonder if Kenny Rogers played on that session or did just play it live?
Sounds like lipsyching to me but Wiki lists him as being the bass player on the albums. "Just Dropped in...." above is live though and he's playing. He got that great old Fender flatwound with a pick sound, real deep with a click, I'm wondering if that is an early 50's P bass or its a fairly new Tele bass, hard to tell them apart to me.
Yeah, it looks pretty new to me too. I'd love to grab one of those. I had a 72 with the big humbucker on it years ago but would have preferred the single coil like the above. Oh well I can dream anyway, nice ones are going for 4, 5 grand now.
the first edition was the name of the band until the early 70s (then it became KR and the first edition). in 1968 my band played a double-bill gig with them and it was obvious then who the 'standout' was. he was a talented cat and a good rock/pop/country singer/personality.

I heard an interview with him and he said he was playing bebop on DB before he got into a into singing and song writing. That's pretty cool.
