Double Bass RIP Marshall Grant

Marshall Grant (born May 1928 - died August 6, 2011) was the upright bassist and electric bassist of singer Johnny Cash's original Tennessee Three. Marshall also managed The Statler Brothers. Rest in peace Marshall.

Very sad. His book, "I Was There When It Happened" is a very interesting read. No drink, no drugs, getting John on stage. Strong man, strong life. RIP

My current employer, Sherwin Linton knew Marshall - knew Johnny very well too having met him in 1957 and worked with him live and on John's TV show many times. I go up to Sherwin's place to practice and there's a pair of Cash's boots in the corner that John gave Sherwin on stage at the SD state fair...

Sherwin tells me Marshall said he had over 25 distinct types of slaps that he had developed and used over the years... Yeah baby!

Marshall's name was most definitely in "the big tally book" in Hillbilly Heaven... Written in letters of pure gold.
