Total Badass and a major electric bass influence and innovator. The master had deeeeep pockets.
Headhunters changed my world. I am deeply grateful for Mr Jackson, he was my primary influence. Rest in Groove my friend.
Very sad news. His playing on Herbie's albums was a big inspiration on me.

Thanks to Paul Jackson for forging a path into a deep and seldom grooved path of stanky funk, trod it only if you understand and dare. Go boldly with your rhythm partners into your own - as you discover new places of colours and shapes of time and bump.

My favorite electric bassist of all time. Got me to change my whole approach to bass. Met him a few times and he was so laid back and kind. I’m heartbroken. Gonna be playing Black Octopus in PJs honor.
He was the rhythmic engine that drove the Headhunter’s sound, there is no bass player of any style I respect more. Sometimes when I hear young bassists play the intro to Chameleon I ask them if they’ve bothered to learn the middle section (without the ostinato bass riff). Most haven’t and that’s where the serious action is bass wise.
Paul was one of the most funky bassist ever to grace the planet. RIP sir. You were --> and still are an inspiration to the rest of us.
Paul made everything sound better. His was a unique and special voice in the history of bass. I can’t thank him enough. RIP
