According to Mike Clark's Facebook page, bassist Paul Jackson just passed away.

I'm heartbroken. Paul was a huge influence, and one of my favorite players. His groove was deep, and his connection to drummers (especially Clark) was telepathic.

    I will miss his stank.

Oteil Burbridge made a similar post on Instagram. Very sad day - this man was amazing. Glad to have seen the Headhunters live in Portland in the early 2000s.

It's getting almost normal now for a bassist/musician who have made a difference in my musical growth to pass through the Rainbow bridge. I'm going to have to change my thinking from just mourning to more of a thankfulness for the great legacy of music they have blessed us with.
Thanks for the funk Paul, fly on.............................................

So bummed about this, I was lucky to hang with him for a bit when my band opened up for the Headhunters, back in 05.

This is the first one in a while that I'm genuinely bummed about.

  12. Hearing Paul Jackson's impeccable groove was one of the reasons I became a bassist. I listened to the Herbie Hancock records he played on with the perspective of a keyboard and horn player, but it was the intense dynamic of the bass and drums that really blew my mind!

He was one of those guys who "influenced" me when I didn't even know who he was.

Another bass treasure gone, but leaves behind a trove of grooves. We were fortunate to have had him. Godspeed.

He and Clark were ridiculously tight. I mean probably as tight as anyone ever has been or will be. He had an unusual sound that I don't think too many people would shoot for, but man did it work for him. Unique.

I'm not seeing any news stories on this yet, which is surprising. Hope it's not true, but I am not hopeful.

I feel very sad to read this. What a groove that man had.
Make the angels dance, brother Paul. We miss you down here.
