Rob Wasserman, Masterful Upright Bassist, Dies After Brief Hospitalization
2016 may be the worst year ever for loss. This happened on the same day as Scotty Moore (Elvis Presley's longtime guitar player) passing so this may not get much attention. I've been influenced by Rob's playing since the late 70s and he's still on my list of influences on my Profile here. This one hurts a bit....

In 1980 I had the good fortune to attend a masterclass with Rob. He planted the seed that it was possible have a strong melodic voice on the bass playing music other than jazz. In the thirty-six years since that seed has grown deep roots.

Rob has an obit in today's Times. It says 'he played an upright bass guitar rather than the ubiquitous more horizontal type'. Who writes this stuff?
