I saw Robbie play w Sly and Black Uhuru. I hadn’t heard of him before that concert.

Man he laid it down thick and groovy.

Oh no! I've seen so many shows in my old age but still one of the highlights was Black Uhuru in the early 80's, bass of the gods! Just ridiculous how great he was and a major influence on the bass world even if a lot of people don't realize it. It will take a bit to process this for me.

I saw the Black Uhuru /King Sunny Ade show in Cleveland in the 80s. Robbie was definitely one of the my favorites bassists and a reggae legend. Sad news

Only saw him live once, with Black Uhuru at a gig in Bermuda, Sly on the drums and a crowd of 1000 or so, outside. Rock solid bass, he played a Steinberger L2 with Robbie on Symmons drums.

Robbie was a HUGE influence on me. I saw him with Black Uhuru in a club in Chicago and he was amazing.

So sad to see the passing of another great player that meant so much to my growth as a musician. He touched a lot of lives.

Robbie Shakespeare, through his many phat grooves, taught me how to play bass. I've practiced by repeating many of his lines from Black Uhuru, Ini Kamoze, and others. He and Sly are behind so many great Reggae songs.

He will be truly missed.
