Risky or just a good nickname?

We had a visiting Pastor sit in with our Worship team when we needed a drummer. The rehearsal went well and after it was over he came up to me when he realized I was using a fretless. I found out then he is also a bass player and didn’t I find it risky to use a fretless?
I have never worried about playing fretless at all before and still don’t now.
The surprise out of this event is now my Jazz bass is nicknamed Risky.
I have never nicknamed any of my instruments before so this is my question; does your bass have a nickname and how did it reveal its self?

Sorry, but...no, none of my 23 basses have nicknames - or names, for that matter. I've always figured that I know which is which, and besides; they're like cats; they don't come when you call them, so why bother? I do have one that sometimes gets referred to in unflattering terms, though. It's my '94 Gretsch Broadkaster, which has... problems. Some are inherent in it's design and construction; some are caused by the electronics; and some are simply that it's a 25 y/o hollow body bass, that was neglected until I bought it. When it feels like working, it's a wonderful bass; it's the "when it's working" that bugs me. But, it doesn't have a name or a nickname...

My current #1 is known as " the wrecking ball", due to my tendency to rattle the house with it at a ridiculously low volume.

I'm currently assembling an extremely custom #2, going for a more articulated woody sound, we'll have to see how she turns out.

The ones that have names have revealed themselves in due time. I have Vince and Jules, and Captain Ray is out in Colorado.

My favorite bass is my Fodera Yin Yang. It doesn’t have any other names yet, but I’ve only had it for a few months. Not all of my basses end up with nicknames. Right now it’s “the Fodera”. And since I can’t afford any more Foderas, there’s no pressure to come up with anything else.

You can’t force it. But I like “Risky”.

I have inured myself against the “naming inanimate objects is silly/juvenile/unprofessional/etc.” crowd by acknowledging that of course it’s silly! It’s having a laugh, a bit of fun. It’s not like it matters what you call them, they’re not gonna come!
