Very helpful responses from all- thanks
The link to the Roya above shows an upper horn that
has been reduced in length- I like that and that is the
sort of modification I was think about as well-

I will send a sound clip directly....

The latest edition to the family, acquired from Ebay, a Roya 4 (0126) with a Black Marble High Gloss Lacquer finish. This bass has a 34" scale.

The body is Alder, neck is Maple, fretboard is Rosewood, with Ritter BB1 tremolo, Master Bar pickups and Master pre-amp. The bass came tuned drop C. I thought it had been de-tuned for shipping! The truss rod was fully tight, but after a good cleaning a thorough set-up and a gallon of fretboard oil (exaggeration, but that board was dry, dry dry) it now plays like butter with an extremely low action. I have some medium DR Black Beauties fitted, which work well (IMHO) with the color of the board and the overall color of the bass.
