Hello i played threw many of these amp's way back, loved the sound they made ,ev 15's and double 18's i think they were like 2 inches thick and it may have been fiberboard i'm not sure but they wieghed a ton, that kept me away ,at that time i went for a kustom 2 -15 amp and cabinet in cascade color, did'nt sound as good as the road stuff but at least i could carry it(man that stuff had to be the heavest gear there was.

ROAD 1-18 amp

Thanks for your Road story! There's a small tear in the tolex where I can see that it's made using 1/2 inch construction plywood. The same stuff that is required in earthquake "sheer" walls of houses. The only thing stronger might - literally - be a brick house.
I might have said it before...try jamming my 118 combo into the back door of a ford focus, alone. I'm glad there are others who can relate.
BTW, that cascade Kustom must have been cool.
Well... No posting about Road amps since 09.. Anyone have any current/new info on this line?
I have a 1-15 combo that I have never seen listed anywhere. It plays pretty nice and I'm thinking about selling it.

Alright, this could be a fun place.
I thought I was the only kid on the block with a ROAD 1x18. I wasn't looking for one and frankly I'd never heard of ROAD until I saw this one...couldn't resist. I've read it's rated at 200w and I've read 400w, so I'll just leave that 150 watt amp on top until I know for sure but it rattles the house as is. I don't plan to gig with it because it's just too tough to get up and down the stairs.

Colorado Robert, I think your 1-10 combo was AFTER Road moved out to LA and was sold to Rickenbacker. I've just picked up(well, with help of course) a Road 1-18Bass combo. Normal channel works great and is quiet but the other is noisy. The 18EV shakes the rafters bigtime on a low B(NS 5st upright). Can't find much on it yet, but I'll keep at it. Bought because it was built in Ft. Scott Ks. My percussionist used to play with Buddy Ross way back. In fact, Bud came out to see us at a gig a few years back. I had only heard LOTS of stories about him. Nice fella. He used to supply my pal and his brother all kinds of Kustom and Camco gear in the early '70s when I was out on the road with them.
Hey Chris, First thing I need to clear up is I mis-measured my speaker in this cabinet, it is a 12 inch instead. I did get it all put back together after replacing every pot in it and every capacitor. Right now I have it for sale at Melody Music in Englewood, CO for $140. The guy there who owns the store, use to work with Bud Ross also and sold him a few experimental guitar pedals back in the day. Their history is a bit confusing as to what actually happened but I have seen a Road/Rickenbacker ad on ebay. My amp I think may have come out just before they merged with Ric. None the less it is a powerful transistor amp and the Em speaker sounds great in it. It is to big for my needs though and if I want a happy wife so it needs to go. I do have some schematics but none that matched my unit. I would like to see a pic of yours.
Ok I'll revive this thread again. I too was looking up info on my Road amp and speakers. I have the full 1x10 stack. It's ungodly heavy. Still works though. I fired it up there other day. Does any one know how the slider eq works. Is it just for effects loop?

I would expect about 80 watts rms into 8 ohms and maybe 150 watts into 4 ohms. I doubt any more than that. Possibly less.
