Road worn 50's P Bass

how is it on the 'wrong side' of the headstock?

I'm also not seeing how the "burn" is on the wrong side of the headstock.
When I smoked, (when smoking in clubs was still allowed around here) I'd just jam the filter of my cigarette under the E string between the E string tuner post and the nut.
the wear actually does not look real you can tell its fake , the buckle wear on the back looks very fake BUT i would rather someone buy this then a standard mexican or better bass and try to "relic" it i have seen way to many hack jobs on ebay trying to pass a bass of as a relic.
I am one of those guys who thought RW were a weird concept. Then when I realized I wanted my first P-Bass, I tried one and immediately decided that I had to own it. Lightest Bass I own by far, really comfortable neck and great sounding. And now I also think the look is a + ;-)
Hmmm, I've never seen or even heard of anyone doing it that way before. Was it pointing down? I think it might burn faster pointing down.
However, I do remember one guy with a Telecaster guitar who stuck the butt onto a piece of excess high E string sticking out from the tuner.
Yeah it was pointing down. It was faster for me to grab it and put it back between riffs or song sections that way, although sometimes I would drop it. Burn rate is another issue... you could try top-loaded vs bottom-loaded for best match to the song's tempo
well my "burn" is exactly where it'd be if a smoke was put under the e string between the tuner and the nut.... always where I've ever seen 'em.

I'm pretty sure there is no RIGHT way to wedge a cigarette under the strings on the headstock of a bass. Just don't do it. Even when I smoked (Lord forgive me), I had enough self-restraint to avoid such cigarette burns my bass. If only my lungs and wallet had been so lucky....
Yes had mine for a few months now and still loving it. I find the wide neck easy to play. I swapped out the PUPs for Dimarzios which added clarity and volume, and added a bridge cover. My former bass was Gretsch Thunderjet which now feels a bit like a toy by comparison.
People are generally more positive about the feel of these than the relic-ed look. Personally I like it as it gives you freedom from worrying about scratches - I take my bass to practice without a gig bag or case. Who cares?

Had mine for a cuppla months near now- LOVING it. I got Fender Nylon Tapewounds on her- to me they sound better'n the Labellas of the same kind.....!!?!?!?! Wondering re the pups in the RW P tho. I do have a set of Dimarzio's I could throw in, but I like iot as it is,,,,, But I'd like to know just which fender pups they actually put in 'em.
I was really impressed with the RW P basses I played. They felt and sounded great. I liked the reverse tuners, vintage frets and vintage bridge touches... just nice extras on a fantastic bass. But I can't justify paying that asking price... especially when it doesn't look new and clean.
I was just in the market for a new Precision Bass that looked like it its 50 year old; I wanted the mojo without all the costs, hassles and worries of a vintage axe.
So I played a few Road Worn P-Basses, but they didn't have the feel or sound I had in mind. I didn't think they felt "substantial" enough and the aging looked and felt very cosmetic. You would run your finger over a worn spot (such as where your right forearm rests on the body above the pickup) and there was no indent from the wear, and the areas where paint had chipped were level with the surrounding paint.
I instead bought a Bill Nash 1957 Precision Bass copy with a Candy Apple Red light relic finish and I couldn't be happier. The bass looks, feels and sounds fantastic, and its everything I had in mind and more.
The distressing that Nash does is very realistic; when I saw cracked paint where the body joins the neck, I thought it was an actual fracture in the body and nearly returned the bass, but it turned out to be cosmetic.
The $400 more for the Nash was a bummer, but you pay for quality once and enjoy it for years forward.

I was lucky & found a RW P at 1/2 RRP price, new... well old/new. I LOVE mine with Fender Nylon Tapewounds on her!
I thought the whole concept was just dumb, and had never bothered to pick one up. I said as much to a guitarist friend of mine and he said the RW guitars were definitely different to play. So today I tried lots of basses, including new MIA Ps and a 50's RW P. The RW sounded and played better than most and was, IMHO, far better than the shiny new MIA P.
I feel the concept of the RWs has put a lot of people off and prevented them from experiencing what IMO is a great sounding, well built bass. Why Fender didn't/don't offer a non relic version is beyond me. As I have said on the numerous RW threads I demoed the RW against the standard MIM 50s reissue and a more expensive Lakland Bob Glaub Skyline, and the RW was easily the best of the 3.
