...some are really cool, but personally, if I were to have one, I'd like to do the artwork myself.

And when it comes to antiquing a bass, it ain't that hard.

Still, some of those baby's are nice. Some say that getting aggressive with the wood, actually "ages" it and makes it sound more vintage. It's true that vibrations will change the molecular structure, so...who knows?

I've 'antiqued' my '76 4000 over 24 years with my arm.

I agree. My buddy is playing a newer Highway 1 strat. Something about that guitar's finish lets it fall apart pretty quickly and within a couple years he's already achieved that battered look that's all the rage. Unfortunately when you see someone with beat up gear you tend to assume that they as a player are equally as seasoned as their axe. My only excusable exception - your grandaddy handed you down his timeless relic, in which case it should probably be hanging on the wall instead. To me its just like paying extra for pants with holes.

You'd prefer to tattoo yourself? I completely disagree with that...but then again I'm no Matisse.

alot of pro tattoo artists i know have started by tattooing them selves. My artist he did his whole left sleeve at 15 years old.all single needle and it was a home made tattoo gun made with a 9volt battery and a guitar string. and amazingly it still looks pretty good
