Roasted maple neck on Sire D5--too roasted?

You were the one who questioned whether anyone has seen high end instruments with roasted necks.

After which some examples were provided to you, which pretty much settled it.

What you're doing now is moving the goal posts.

Well, if people are willing to spend 7 grands in a Jazz Bass that sounds like 95% of the other Jazz Basses, I let them do. A good neck is a good neck, whether roasted or not. If I have to pay an extra, to maybe have the chance of a 'potentially more stable neck', I won't. For the looks? Matter of taste, in that case. Which is fully subjective. Also, to come back to OP's subject, I wouldn't trust a neck that's been TOO roasted, even on one half of the said neck. Every manufacturers will also tell you that too much roast = bad.

Roasted necks are a joke anyway. "oh here's some young, ungrown, unstable maple, we'll cook it in hopes that the neck doesn't warp before we ship it!" said all manufacturers selling you roasted necks. Do you see roasted necks on hi-end instruments? Sorry for you, OP but I would have avoid these

I see roasted necks on higher end basses where the manufacturer can afford it, like EBMM for instance. Smaller boutique builders tend to have a supply of carefully dried and aged wood to make necks with, though I don't doubt some would offer roasted necks if they could afford the process costs.

POSTSCRIPT: A happy ending. First of all, thanks to all here that engaged and contributed. Great conversation. Based on additional research, no one has said that there were likely any structural issues with that neck, but I just wasn't feeling the complete and unqualified love. Late yesterday afternoon, my SW rep, Jordan Firstenberg--totally unsolicited--offered me another D5 that became available. Tough call, but I jumped on #2. #1 will no doubt soon find a loving home and be a beautiful, unique player for some lucky bassist. Meanwhile, #2 is on its way. Hats off to the stellar service and accommodations from Jordan and the SW team. Will report back with pix and how it plays and sounds soon.

Super cool from Sweetwater, here in Europe I have nothing to complain about Thomann but Sweetwater is next level! Glad you will be getting a neck that fits your style the most, congrats cause that bass looks sick, have fun. Now I am looking for a P5... hard to resist to a neck like that;)

I like this one - roasting looks more natural and the dots are way easier to see. I think you made a good call!
