The answer is C.... Cliff of course.
Between trujillo and newstead Id say newstead has made more interesting basslines.

Jason. I prefer his style of playing and I think he's a more talented musician since he actually writes songs. Rob just seems like a hired gun to me. Good player, stick him in any band and he gets the job done, but nothing stands out about him (other than his gorilla posture when he plays).
you clearly have never listened to Infectious Grooves
Sarsippius Ark is one of my all time favorite albums
Yes, I have. That was the awful 90s funk side project of Mike from Suicidal Tendencies. The late 80s/early 90s had a lot of heavy bands taking a turn at trying to be funky. Dreadful.
with Cliff it was way different, I think! you could really hear the bass and the bass parts in early Metallica...with Jason and Rob, not so much.
I haven't listened to Infectious Grooves since when I was in college. I just watched a few videos and it was exactly like I remembered. Much like hair metal and 80s guitar shredders, early 90s heavy, funky rock didn't age well.
I forgot even Ozzy jumped on the funk bandwagon.
Is there a common motif today for heavy rock videos like there was in the 80s and 90s?

Alright, I'll bite. Your position is that funky rock didn't age well. My response to that is that starting around the time that RATM and IF put out their early albums, rock took a funky edge that still hasn't disappeared. You've got bands like Korn, Limp Bizkit, Kid Rock, Incubus, Deftones, Maroon 5, Linkin Park, Papa Roach, SOAD, Franz Ferdinand, and MUSE among others. Many of these bands are still putting out records that sell fairly well.
I'd say that it aged well with the general public, and that nearly every rock band I hear on modern rock radio today has a funky edge that, well frankly has been around since the '70s.
I think it may be safer to say that you don't like funky rock which is fine. It doesn't mean it hasn't aged well among those people that spend money on music.
Define the phrase " actually writes songs" please.
I'll admit I had to go peruse the interwebs to gather some information. But I'm curious as to what you think writing a song means.
Well, Jason has a new band and album called (wait for it) Newsted in which he wrote all the songs. After Metallica, he had a band called Echobrain where he wrote the songs. He wrote some songs on the Voivod albums when he was in that band.
So I guess what I consider writing a song is when someone comes up with music and lyrics and then puts some sort of structure to it.
