Aberration? Similar stories in the local news in L.A. almost every couple weeks, sometimes more often, but not famous people. Many stories don't even make the news. Sad world. Lots of drugs and homeless, and no shortage of mental illness.
I don't disagree with your point, but most people, average people, cannot afford or, if they can, do not desire a "lifetime of therapy."
Tragic.
Mental Illness doesnt get the attention it should in the USA.
Big Pharma Drugs are handed out like candy to "treat" people and it only leads to abuse and self medication by other means.
Then society points at "Illicit Drugs" as the culprit.
Attention is never where it should be.
Sorry folks.
But I needed to say that.
There’s the rub. People need mental health services but they can’t afford them! In Canada, a psychologist can be $260/hr Cdn.Yeah, my "health insurance" doesn't really cover mental health services (well, they do, in network, only available once a month), so I am paying $185/week
But we get those services for free here on TB, right? Costs nothing to rant, and get it all out. Beats screaming at the wall. There’s the rub. People need mental health services but they can’t afford them! In Canada, a psychologist can be $260/hr Cdn.
I don't think it does anywhere. It's still considered "not really being ill, pull yourself together" territory pretty much the world over.Tragic.

It's a crazy world. We used to just ignore it, like dementia. Now of course we have a pill for everything, and a diagnosis for every condition, and depending on which specialist you go to you may get a different one?I don't think it does anywhere. I don’t think our psyches have evolved fast enough to keep up with our technologies. We’re just not made for the environments we’re making for ourselves. It's a crazy world. There have always been crazy people acting irrationally and dangerously, but I didn't used to have to share the road with so many of them! It's like "Road Warrior" just getting to the grocery store, which is less than a mile away.
Our brains are being hit with more information than we can process. I'd say it's safe to assume that we can count on there being a whole lot more mental instability in the near future.I don’t think our psyches have evolved fast enough to keep up with our technologies.
