Rob Reiner RIP

So tragic, I'm stunned. I worked with Rob on the movie Stand By Me, shot in Shasta, CA, I was the on-set dresser via the prop department. We all stayed in the Redding Holiday Inn and every night after shooting, a bunch of us would go to the lounge and jam with our instruments, I played harmonica. Rob knew every TV theme song ever made. He was one of the most down to earth people I ever worked with. Too many people on that movie met tragic drug related deaths (I was also friendly with River Phoenix, having worked with him and Martha Plimpton later on Mosquito Coast).

Absolutely horrible news. All indications point towards his son and I don't even want to know all the details. I'm completely crushed that this has happened to both of them. This and the horrific Sydney beach incident has completely torn my very thin thread of a good mood this holiday season. I just feel like locking all my doors and staying far away from the outside world and just immerse myself with music, my wife and my dogs. It just too much to process for me at this point and deal with day after day with these things that happen that seems to have no end around the world. It really makes you step back and ask "This is absolute madness, what are we doing?" 😢😩

That's exactly what I've been doing since Ozzy died months ago.
I've "immerse myself with music", playing and everything bass related.

I've been asking myself that for years, with no answers.

Families can be tough, holidays sometimes make things worse. I used to dock my boat a few docks down in Marina Del Rey from Johnny Carson's 130' Westport yacht, "Serengeti." Johnny was very private but would wave to us from his dingy when he took it out for a spin around the marina. At Christmas his two living sons (third died young in auto accident) would come for dinner on the yacht and Johnny would hand them checks. I heard the checks were like $10,000 each, not that much compared to his net worth. It was pretty much the only time the kids came to see him, and they were never sure they would get their checks. If they didn't show up there would be no check. Must have been a tough dinner to get through?

I only bring this up because I assume something like this happened between the Reiners and their drug-addicted son, but the check, if there was one, was inadequate, or not provided? It's a sad way to go, for a guy who did so much good work. RIP.

Not at all, it can become normalized even as a ritual in the structure of a high status family with an emotionally disabled elder (which was normal too)
and it's nothing a lifetime of therapy can't help manage... but RR was Not an emotional disabled elder, so this is a real aberration.

Aberration? Similar stories in the local news in L.A. almost every couple weeks, sometimes more often, but not famous people. Many stories don't even make the news. Sad world. Lots of drugs and homeless, and no shortage of mental illness.

I don't disagree with your point, but most people, average people, cannot afford or, if they can, do not desire a "lifetime of therapy."

You are right, by aberration I just meant from the stereotype, not any unusualness. Any detective in the movies or TV (or book) knows that the family are potential suspects.
I also meant "lifetime of therapy" as a kind of joke meme as a cure from early learned emotional disability. Hollywood is it's own category.

Just read a report that the man responsible for Spinal Tap, and many other great films, has apparently been found dead, with his wife.
Tragic.
RTE news : Director Rob Reiner and wife found dead at home
