Robert Trujillo on Larry Graham

I always liked Infectious Grooves more than Suicidal Tendencies. I still dig their cover of Immigrant Song. That's the way we play it on the rare occasion we cover it in my current band. Rob's got some funk to him, but he's like the flipside of Flea to me. Flea was a funk player who had a punk edge while Trujillo is a metal player who has some funk.

As for Claypool, another little bit of that story was that he reportedly asked the guys if they "wanted to jam on some Isley Brothers Tunes". Good stuff.

I can't necessarily see Larry Graham working with Metallica, but then I wouldn't have seen Pino with D'Angelo or Flea with The Mars Volta and those both worked out amazingly. Sometimes odd pairings just work. I know Jamerson was set to work with Jeff Beck. Now THAT'S something I wish had come to fruition.

Yeah, I was 10 feet from him at a S.T. show back in.... probly '90.... he was a monster on his blue Tobias 5er back then. I'm actually surprised that he joined a band where his abilities won't be utilized as well. :hmm: But, then again.... I haven't truly liked Metalica since the Justice album. I was there biggest fan EVER until then, though.

I may have to go see them, just to see Trujillo one more time.

I never got interested in Metallica's music, still don't. But I really like Trujillo's work in Suicidal Tendencies and Infectious Grooves. Those bands also had great drummers. I don't consider Lars Ulrich a good drummer.

yeh, i had wondered about that. not to start a war or anything, but trujillo is miles ahead of newstead and burton. i wonder how lars' playing has affected his style.

and i have to say - i listened to death magnetic and i still can't hear the bass. :(

I honestly think that Trujillo just took a big paycheck. If you saw that Metallica documentary that filmed him auditioning, they paid him $1,000,000 upfront and then voted him a full member immediately. I'm not deep into Metallica, but I think they did it partly to avoid alienating him like apparently they did with Newsted, and I think they were kind of showing Newsted up too.:rolleyes:

Sarsippius! Love that stuff.

My brother was a DJ at a local radio station and I was up there with him one night. He pulled out a box of CDs (that the station wouldn't play) and said "Take any that you want." One of them was The Plague That Makes Your Booty Move. I'd never heard of these guys, but I listened to it and loved it. (Especially "Therapy" with Ozzy on guest vocals.) What a great album, and Robert really impressed me.
