I don't think I'd know even three Metallica songs if I heard them, but I love Robert for who he is and what he does.

If you ever have a chance to hear Jackie McLean's son Rene play, he will blow you out of the room. I was unprepared for the experience.

In general, if you check out parents and kids in jazz, you will get lost in the depth and richness of it.

Cool list... and I definitely missed some drummers...but
I only counted 4 kids total bassists from bassists.
And 2 of them are Stings kids..and he's pictured with a guitar!
The other 2 are Jack Bruce and Mr Trujillo.
We're under represented!
Even Steve Harris's kid is a guitarist.. and Gene Simmons kids are, well, whatever they are.
I say this..as a dad of a drummer.... How's that for karma!!

Then one of Richard Thompson’s sons by Nancy Covey, Jack, is four-stringer. Of course, his son by Linda, Teddy, has had a long running singer/songwriter career, and years ago I knew another son, albeit non-musical, Jessie. At that same time I worked with Jordan Zevon, as mentioned in that list. At a recent RT concert I attended, he had his grandson, Zak Hobbs, on second guitar, and Zak was well-versed in Richard’s style. Richard and Linda’s daughter, Kami, has had a duo with her husband, Pretenders lead guitarist James Walbourne.

Louise Goffin, the daughter of Carole King and Gerry Goffin(one of the great Brill Building songwriting teams before Carole’s solo success)has a place out near where I live, and does gigs in the area, but I haven’t caught up with her yet…

Abe Laboriel's son Abe Jr. plays drums with Paul McCartney, and has one of the most unique feels I've ever heard in a drummer.
He's like a really swanky, comfy limousine that can do 0-60 in under 2 seconds, turn on a dime, and race up a mountain fire road.

In 1993 I saw Metallica in a football stadium in Turin. The Cult, Suicidal Tendencies and Megadeth were the openers. First row.

This was really cool! I had no idea that his son has his old gig in Suicidal Tendencies. Robert and Pino have working bassist sons in common.

Jaco's son, Felix Pastorius, is an amazing bass player as well.

Not exactly that famous, but well respected in the jazz community, and has played with some major jazz names.

He plays a 6 string fretted bass, as his main thing, by the way.
