This was really cool! I had no idea that his son has his old gig in Suicidal Tendencies. Robert and Pino have working bassist sons in common.

I think a lot of it has to do with the time of being home. Given that the average age of pregnancy for women in developed countries is around 28 and for men around 31-32, many athletes retire at that time or a few years older. They often then become coaches or pundits and thus have more time to be at home and do stuff with the children. In contrast musician often tour until their late 50s (with some even a lot longer), so the time spent with the kids to teach them is lower.Isn't it odd that more bassists don't have sons or daughters in the biz?

His advance was $5 million. Not rich? Metallica gave him an advance of $1 million when he joined the band.
In 1993 I saw Metallica in a football stadium in Turin. The Cult, Suicidal Tendencies and Megadeth were the openers. First row.
Yeah, I was wondering about that one too. Geddy's "Bassists are Human Too" minidocuseries featured him. He does seem like a very down to earth and cool guy, but his house was not exactly a shack. Not rich? Metallica gave him an advance of $1 million when he joined the band.

There's video of Lars telling him they'll give him $1 million. I guess they upped it later. Good for him.His advance was $5 million.
