This was really cool! I had no idea that his son has his old gig in Suicidal Tendencies. Robert and Pino have working bassist sons in common.
Isn't it odd that more bassists don't have sons or daughters in the biz? 
Ringos son Zack is killin it...but not many drummers progeny either.
You'd think having a pro mom or dad would give you a great teacher and gear available.
Lots of singers and guitarists. But not so much rythem section.
Consider how many major leaguers and footballers have kids in the show.

I only counted 4 kids total bassists from bassists.
And 2 of them are Stings kids..and he's pictured with a guitar!
The other 2 are Jack Bruce and Mr Trujillo.
We're under represented!
Even Steve Harris's kid is a guitarist.. and Gene Simmons kids are, well, whatever they are.
I say this..as a dad of a drummer.... How's that for karma!!

Seriously, Mr. Trujillo seems like a very down-to-earth human being who can absolutely stand with the world's best technicians on his instrument. James, Lars and Kirk chose very well.

Sting’s daughter has a band in which she plays one of his old classic basses.
I think a lot of it has to do with the time of being home. Given that the average age of pregnancy for women in developed countries is around 28 and for men around 31-32, many athletes retire at that time or a few years older. They often then become coaches or pundits and thus have more time to be at home and do stuff with the children. In contrast musician often tour until their late 50s (with some even a lot longer), so the time spent with the kids to teach them is lower.Isn't it odd that more bassists don't have sons or daughters in the biz?

Yeah, I was wondering about that one too. Geddy's "Bassists are Human Too" minidocuseries featured him. He does seem like a very down to earth and cool guy, but his house was not exactly a shack.

Somehow I missed this. And I watch Newshour most nights. thanks for posting! I'm a huge Rob fan and a huge PBS/NPR lover and financial supporter!! Let's not forget what Rob did with the estate of Jaco Pastorius and the Bass of Doom. He's a freaking great player a really good human being.
There's video of Lars telling him they'll give him $1 million. I guess they upped it later. Good for him.
$1 or $5 million is great, but not super rich when you are buying a house in California. Unless he is getting royalties or a retainer, Trujillo is getting paid through gigging and Metallica is not doing that all of the time.

I thought they said they would pay him $1 million per year? Maybe I heard that wrong..... but yeah, it was in the Some Kind of Monster documentary/movie.
The list forgot one famous family. Joe Porcaro had 3 sons who were in Toto. Jeff, Steve and Mike.
