Rock cover bands, what's your closer?

Did a set at Stand Down- a benefit for homeless vets- did *No woman no cry* as an encore, and it really worked. While a lot of bands like to go out big, this number was very fitting (everything's gonna be alright) and ending mellow was good for a change. Mind you 3 of 4 members are at least 49 so we all need a nap anyway
I played that once when I was subbing in a band last year and it was the favorite. I've always liked the song, myself.
Running down a dream by Tom Petty was one we closed with often, always got the job done well. We tried American Girl once, but we couldn't seem to get the same BOMBAST that Petty gets with it.
As horribly cliched as it is, we once closed a show with "FREEBIRD", due to an obnoxious audience member chanting FRRRRRREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEBIIIIIIIIIIIRD! We had never rehearsed it, and neither of our guitarists knew the solo, but someone in the audience did, so we invited him up. He was phenomenal, and the place went nuts. Probably the best audience reaction we ever got.
We had an original called "Past the sun" that was a common closer of ours. Nobody knew it in the crowds, but it had an outro that we eventually drug out to Dave Matthews Band proportions, featuring a lengthy guitar solo AND drum solo. It went over favorably, but that was in our younger, college days. As we got older, we became more of a cover band.

"Girls Get Prettier at Closing Time". It's really kinda funny....the gals are all dancing and having a good time until that little two watt light bulb comes on with a "...hey, wait a minute!" moment.

We usually close with Sweet Child, and every female up on stage..
Depending on the gig, we've also closed with anything from Enter Sandman to Killing in the name of - drunk crowds and some club owners eat that stuff up at 2am..

There's a reason we close every show with Freebird.
It has never failed to bring down the house.
The last cover band I was in would close with....well...it depended on who was left in the place. At 2:30 in the morning, whatever the die-hards left in the place wanted, we would play. A lot of times it ended up being Sober by Tool. Our singer could do a near perfect vocal imitation of Bon Scott so another fav was Dirty Deeds or Highway to Hell. In certain venues it would be Simple Man. I mean, at that point we would play just about anything....even if we didn't know it!
When I was in a cover band (college) we used to come out and do a one-song encore to close. It was Comfortably Numb. We loved this approach as it's such a recognizable start, a long slow build and such an awe-inspiring finish combined with a total let-down for the audience for us to NAIL this thing and then simply walk away and NOT come back. They always stood there in disbelief and that we were finished. Their pain was wonderful.
For the longest time we would close with Everlong - Foo Fighters
Last few times out we went with She Sells Sanctuary - The Cult. Dead easy, recognizable, and go out with a bang.

I think your best song should never be your last one of the night...your best song should be the last one of the 3rd set to keep them waiting for the 4th set. I find, bars empty at 1 am and the gig ends at 1:30 so you are saving your best song for the stragglers.

Okay, so we closed last night's gig with Nothing But A Good Time... At least, that's what remember ;-) ha!
It's a good song to get the last 60 people up to dance and sing along. Then they pay their tabs, and the club owner pays us + bonus, which is always nice.
