RockHall: Should Derek and the Dominos be considered?

That says it all. I look at some artists who have been inducted and I continually come back to this question. Even if the pros are just "Layla" (song, not album), and considering all of the cons (1 album, short lived, few live shows, etc etc), should they at least be considered. After all, that song/album/set of musicians was one hell of an influence on rock music, no?

I classify D&TD as similar to the Traveling Wilburys: a short-lived very successful supergroup who made some great music, sold a lot of records, etc. But their arc of influence is too short. Not a RRHOF candidate.

The Sex Pistols are in with the same basic stats, and they don't get played on the radio nearly as much as "Layla."

Blind Faith fits in that same slot. On my turntable now as a mattter of fact. Clapton and Winwood continue their mutual admiration society from time to time. RRHF remains irrelevant--although Tina Turner's short gold lame dress is something remarkable.

One of the best and passionate albums of all time but it probably falls under the Clapton canon. They should induct Carl Radle and Jim Gordon though, those guys were on so many great records.

Supergroup full of session players and superstars who have already been inducted, they only made one album, more like a side project diversion than a real band.

If I was on the board at the RRHOF, I would not consider Derek and the Dominos for a nomination nor induction if it actually got that far.

EC called them a make-believe band. Of course to me that's not an issue if the music's good, which it was. It's a phenomenal album...one of my favorites. Honestly, with some of the bands and musicians they've inducted it doesn't matter to me anymore what they do except as a curiosity every year.

The cool part would be seeing Carl Radle, Jim Gordon, and Bobby Whitlock recognized for their body of work.
