Roger Waters is legit!

David who? Compare the mens solo works. I know tons of guitarists that can play the "uncomfortably dumb" solo. I've yet to experience anyone else come up with the concepts that Roger had for "Pros and Cons of Hitchiking" and "Radio Koas", "Amused To Death". Roger is a genius. The music flows from him into and through any venue, instrument, recording device or bandmate that he's in close proximity of. Look at the liner notes of his recordings; all the already famous people that have appreared on them. I say "Rog is THE BEST!" and I'm so happy he's a bass player

I'm a big fan of Water's, but I'll take Dave's solo work over his anyday. Also, I've heard many people say they can play Dave's stuff, and all their fingers move in the right spots, but no one really gets the feel and tone right.

I want Waters to be a great bass player because he's such a cool dude.

However, it's pretty clear that from Dark Side on he no longer had interest playing bass. Most of the great bass lines after Dark Side are attributed or supposedly attributed to Gilmour. Rogers' bass playing shined in the early and transition work of Floyd because it was very experimental and they band had no definitive frontman. Once he cements himself as the face of Floyd he is no longer Floyd's bassist, but their songwriter, and I think he felt that. I do believe Gilmour when he says that Waters largely lost interest in improving his abilities on bass.

Waters is awesome, and I love that he has not abandoned the bass in his solo career, but since he generally never speaks of playing bass I would say he still identifies himself as a songwriter, and maybe plays bass because he is not good enough at guitar to play lead.

No:scowl:
Gilmore did few of the bass lines, and they were written by Waters.
Waters didn't cease being Floyd's bassist by writing all the music; becoming the writer of songs does't stop one from playing his main instrument (often obviously written on bass). Water's continues to play and write great bass lines against the accompaniment of Eric Clapton and Jeff Beck, etc.
Pink Floyd without Waters is an absolute JOKE :atoz:
Waters had the balls and chops to go it his own. The Wall and The Final Cut were his first two solo records; the rest of the band were given the opportunity to be his backing band for the projects. Marketing reasons: they were "Pink Floyd."

where the hell does the animosity against the Artist come from:confused:

Agree about Roger, completely disagree about David.David's 1st solo album is great,'Short and Sweet' is one of the greatest rock tunes ever written,IMO,even with Harper's assistance!!/:smug:

My man, I have no animosity towards Rogers. Look at all great bass parts after Dark Side and tell me Gilmour didn't write/play them. I don't believe David when he says "I played most of the bass parts", but I know for a fact Gilmour played on a lot of Animals and on the nicer lines of The Wall. Waters would not even play songs like Pigs or Hey You on bass live, and on footage from the Wall tour songs like Young Lust are pretty much relegated to the backing band. I love Rog and think he's a killer bass player and one of the coolest dudes alive, but his bass lines have never been standout and you cannot objectively tell me he did not stop caring about playing bass.

I think Roger views himself as a musician and songwriter more than a bass player. Most behind the music type shows I've seen with him he uses a guitar to demonstrate what he did. Even the song Money he used both a bass and a guitar. I don't know why this throws some people into an uproar, the notion that a person can play more than one instrument.

Were you present during the recording of Animals and The Wall? What about Wish You Were Here or The Final Cut? Do you have some sort of evidence that makes you state it as a fact that Gilmore was playing "the nicer lines?" Did Waters play all the "less nice lines," and then bring in Gilmore to play the best lines he wrote? I love Gilmore, but this kind of revisionist history smells of what make the grass grow green.

Anyone who thinks Roger can't play the bass needs to listen to this:

Maybe he played the later stuff, maybe he didn't. Doesn't matter. The early stuff proves he's awesome, and he no longer has to prove anything to any of us. If or when he decides that the bass is once again the focus of his musical work he'll play it well.

Uhhh… during "The Flesh" tour for example, Roger played bass on everything except "Sheep", "Welcome to the Machine", and the 1st bass solo in "Pigs."
About the Wall:Let's see you sing something as emphatic and vocally taxing as "The Trial" and play bass at the same time :rollno::roll no:. Then we'll talk.

Anyone else notice Roger has huge hands? Also he seems to be plucking right against the bridge. Just musing.

I've never seen David or Roger live but during the 11/11/11 Sandy concert Roger only played bass on Money, guitar on Another Brick in the Wall pt 3, and only sang for the rest of the set (if I remember correctly).
