Seymour Duncan SPB-2, rounds and the highs rolled off will get you that sound.

I saw the Wall two times this year. Great show, but i cant say i his bass playing or sound does much for me. Of course he hardly played bass on that show.

Now, do you mean the bass tone on the records, or on the live concert recordings? On the records, er, I mean, albums, (records - now I'm really dating myself. But then again, I've listened to this stuff since it was new, and my best friend growing up knows every single background voice in the entirety of Dark Side. And being an English major in college, he can also recite most of the Coleridge library from memory. But I digress...) Gilmore is actually the one who laid down a lot of the bass tracks. That said, You can't go wrong with simpler is better: P. As in P-Bass. As in Period. As much as Wright experimented with keys, organs, synths, etc., and as convoluted as Gilmore's setup was, and as lavish as their stage sets were, Mason usually kept it to a straightforward Ludwig set and Waters used the P. (all this post-Syd Barrett, of course).

There is no dark side of the moon, really. As a matter of fact, it's all dark....

you completely misunderstood me, I know he used stock, I just want something that will give me that stock tone, since stock fender p's today aren't like stock fender p's from the 70's

go with the Fender 62' originals, there only about $60.00....

I'd go with the Duncan quarterpounders, I think. I'd heard that he actually did swap out the stocks for the Duncans around the time of the Wall or so. (sounds right, the Duncan quarterpounds were released in the 80's, am I correct?) But honestly, I can duplicate some of his tone with a jazz bass, actually. It's much more in your playing approach, settings, strings, and effects. Just out of curiosity, why are you trying to duplicate his exact rig, anyway? are you in a Floyd tribute band?

He was never very keen on improving himself as a bass player and half the time I would play bass on the records because I would tend to do it quicker. Right back to those early records; I mean, at least half the bass on all recorded output is me anyway. [...] Rog used to come in and say, 'Thank you very much' to me once in a while for winning him bass-playing polls."

The Wall was recorded in late '79. First time I remember seeing QPs was in the 80s.

Pretty much any p-bass pickup will work. To get the roger Waters tone use a pick. 1/4 pounder pickups have a nice tone.

Though it's well known David played some of the bass parts in PF recordings, particularly the fretless parts, I wouldn't put too much stock in anything either of those guys said about the other.

But was Roger was always more interested in being a songwriter/lyricist/artist than a "musician".

Fender should do a David Gilmour Signature bass.

Pretty much ANY p-bass pickup will work just fine. Just play with a pick and set your eq flat.

71 p bass with rotosound flats (Played with a pick near the bridge) and hiwatt bass amps: basically a very punchy but not trebly bass sound

What is the Roger Waters sound??

By all accounts David Gilmour played about half of all bass tracks and all fretless during the Waters era in the studio. Pigs and Sheep is definitely DG. As big a Floyd fan as I am there just isn't a distinctive Roger Waters tone.
