Rogue VB100 or Douglas WVEB Short Scale Violin Bass?

Hi. I'm looking to purchase a violin bass. My budget is about $240.
The Rogue VB100 is $220, and the Douglas WVEB short scale is $160. I'm kind of skeptical of the Douglas because it is short scale and a brand I've never heard of before.

I will also want to buy flat wound strings so I can get that retro, '70s "thump" sound.

I'm mainly looking for a bass that is light-weight with small fret spacing so that I can maneuver around the neck easily.
