Roller string tree???

I am not sure such a thing exists for bass.

That said, a Link Removed (meant for 3 guitar strings) would work for 2 bass strings.

But I have to ask, what on earth did you do that caused a string to get destroyed by a string tree? I have genuinely never heard of such a thing on a bass. It seems like the only way this could happen is to pull the string against the tree while tightening the peg with a drill...so it would be a lot easier to simply change your string installation technique as opposed to changing parts.

Cool. Appreciate your help.
Was simply installing. String under tree( slotted)...turning peg to standard tuning and BOING!!!!
String got hung up in slot. I do use heavy gauge strings...so maybe this particular tree slotted for "normal" strings. Don't know. Just thought non-slotted or rolling would eliminate issue poimanently.

That's definitely a new one on me. An alternative would be to wind the string outside of the tree until you're a step or step & a half below pitch and then tuck the string under the tree.

One trick for typical string trees: relieve the bottom edges with a file. Then for bonus points polish the underside and edges along the string paths. This is more essential for guitars but I do it with basses too.

Yah...I wind until any more tension would prevent me from being able to get string under tree. This may be an isolated incident...never happened before. Just don't want it to haopen again. But I will try your remedies. Thanks again.
You are referring to the round fender STYLE knockoff trees With slots?

Real Fender trees have no slots.

Turn your tree 90 degrees and the strings won’t run in the slots.

Would this actually work?!

I am curious why this is not available more readily and widely. The coin type retainer sucks. This one is ok, but I would swap for roller in a second. StewMac with $14 shipping is not really attractive though

Even if it was free shipping it still isn’t very attractive. Heh heh. At least give us a nicely plated oval head screw.
