    Anybody with a Rolls PM350 351?

I purchased one a couple of weeks ago. The instrument input had a high pitched whine that increased with volume. The line in and mic were dead quiet.

I called Rolls and they asked me to send it to them, which I did. They replaced something and sent it back.

It is slightly better now, but the noise is still there only in the instrument input, the other channels are quiet. I guess my expectation is all channels should be dead quiet.

If anyone else has one of these, I would appreciate your experiences with this product.

I can still send it back, but if this is "standard" for the Rolls, I may try to live with it, but will probably send it back.

I am struggling with a wired IEM setup and thought this would be a good solution and it is, exclusive of the noise. I need a line in and a "more me" feature.

    Thanks!

I have no issues with mine. Works great with my TU-2, JDI and Nano board and Westone UM-2.

    No noise in mine.

Forgive the obvious: you've tried feeding the instrument input with a different instrument and cable to verify that the 351 is the source, yes? You've also tried it in a different venue? (Unlike the mic and TRS inputs, the instrument input is fed by unbalanced cable, which is more susceptible to picking up noise.)

If these diagnostic steps point to your particular Rolls as the culprit, I'd return the unit for exchange or refund. They don't normally behave that way.

  4. FWIW: I run a BDDI into a Roll PM50S and it sounds great.

Sent it back and ordered another one, if the new one has the same noise, I will know it's built in.

Also, per above post, the noise is present with or without an instrument being plugged in. As soon as I plug my headphones in and turn the instrument input up, I get the noise. Not too bad below the detent, but progressively worse as the volume is increased.

I did try moving it to several different rooms, thinking something may have been impacting the power supply with no luck, same noise.

Hopefully the new one will solve the problem.

    Thanks for your replies!

That's great. It's such a sweet little set up for an inexpensive but versatile wired IEM rig.
