I dropped in from the Bass Guitar side to post this, and was glad to see it was already mentioned.

I liked the part where Miles Davis asked Ron to tour with him; Ron said he had to honor his current commitment, and Miles said "What?". But it had a happy ending!

wow, what a great interview! Ron was a big part of my getting back to playing again. After selling all my gear and going back to college at CCNY (for science, not music), at the end of my time there he had a group playing at the honors graduation. I couldn't bear the fact that I had abandoned music, and resolved to get back to it. Six months later in grad school I was playing in several bands and an Orchestra, and haven't stopped since. Not much jazz, unfortunately, but my heart is still there.

I've seen him just yesterday with Foursight band. Very classical jazz, played with absolute sureness, calm and clarity. Noone ever sped up or lost his calm. Mr. Carter played like it was the most comfortable thing a human can do. Very inspirational to see how he was connecting his phrases with breath. And wonderful drummer (Payton Crossley).
