I like the fact that these basses are so low in cost but for that same reason im a little skeptical. If I order one of these basses will it fall apart in my hands the day I get it? Does anyone know how these sound? And is it a good buy for the feel and wood but should I have back up money to change out the electronics? I'm kind of strapped for cash but I'd like another bass so I'd appreciate any information I can get before I can make a mistake. Thanks :D

It won't fall apart. It may be decent. The hardware will certainly be crap. The pickup will be servicable but not great. You may get fret sprout, you may not. Certainly worth the price, but could possibly use some work to get it "decent".

I disagree, all the SX guitars/basses I've touched have had perfectly fine bridges, tight and accurate tuning machines, etc... Of course, some will slip through quality control with less-than-perfect fret jobs, but they are WELL worth the price, more so than any other company's basses in that price range in my opinion.

Also, note that SX, Douglas, and Brice are three distinct brands even though they are all sold by Rondo.

I would like to ask some questions about SX bass guitars.

10lbs...why so heavy?
The pots are smaller than typical?
The neck is it covered with a thick coating like a hockey stick? I bought a neck off Ebay from a company called Eden and it worked but compared to my Mighty Might is like Apples and Oranges.
Bridge and tuners? the bridge looks cheap and I also have cheap tuners off Ebay that are also collecting dust.

DiMarzio Model J's IMHO.

I'm hoping the wife goes for a PJ model for Christmas and I'm already thinking about getting DiMarzio's next year from the income tax refund. :)

I'm not sure what SX you're talking about, since they have lots of different models.... the last one I got was 8 pounds. If (any) bass has a coated/finished neck that is too thick for you, you can always sand the back of the neck down and refinish it...

I started a thread about another model of bass that Rondo sells that I have no experience with... but anyways, if you want to go look at my post history, do you want to accuse me of working for OLP, or Seymour Duncan, or GK? :rolleyes::rolleyes: I'm not the only one vouching for SX's bang-for-the-buck status, go read the 3000 post SX club threads if you have other questions

For what it is worth, I am more than pleased with the quality of the SX line. The only real shortfall is the cheapish screws used on the hardware, but guess what? I can name 5 or 6 other brands with that same issue.

As to looking for info on SX, type in essex in the search window....more info on them than you can read in a week!
