Rondo Omega Bass

If I were to buy another SX, it'd be this one.
At least they went with a more likeable headstock on this model.
I think this was mentioned in another thread, and Kurt at Rondo said they were from two different suppliers, and made in different factories.

I got mine today, and she's freakin' sweeeeet. :) Except for a tort guard, I don't plan on changing a thing. And I haven't left a bass stock since...what decade is this? Seriously, I don't make sweeping generalizations about gear, but mine has a nicely matched, beautifully sunburst finished ash body, with the nicest playing four string neck I've ever felt. P width, but more D shaped with a flat 14" board. The silver blocks are unique, a clear epoxy or acrylic over some type of woven material. Very cool looking. The pups are same sized neck, though the body is routed for standard long/short, but I really don't care because they have amazing growl and focus to them. We'll see how well the pegs hold tune and the truss holds relief, but as of right now, I am completely gobsmacked.

Oh, boat anchor, for those that care.

Thanks for the review! I'm glad the quality seems to have been good. I won't be getting one - the jazz neck is half the point of a jazz bass for me - but I imagine some folks will be thrilled about that part.

you bought it for 120?

Yep!

I completely agree about the jazz neck, which was one of the things that shocked me about this bass. I can't stand P or MM necks, but this profile feels just right- for me. And I have large palms, short digits, and am on the short side, fwiw.

Not the typical "swimming pool"/L-shaped Fender rout, no. But mine does have an enlarged neck cavity that's the same shape as the pickup, just bigger. Almost like it was routed by hand and the template slipped, and the guy didn't notice. (Or more likely, didn't give a spit.)
So how does the sound and playability after setup and new strings compare to say, a good Squier or MIM Fender jazz? Pictures would also be greatly appreciated.

I know, pics mean everything- especially at this price point. And I do apologize to all of you who have been sitting on this thread waiting for them, whether you have been vocal about it or not. I've been insanely busy, but I'll try to get some up tonight for you all.

Now, on to the bass. With the exception of sharp fret ends, the actual *playability* is right on par with my dearly missed FSR Antigua Jazz, after a quick setup and string change. I do recommend replacing the wiring, as the pots are absolute @$#% and the soldering looks like it was done by a blind jackalope on a meth bender. The pickups are surprisingly good. Like really good. Much better than the Duncan Designed, standard MIM, and, IMHO, Am. Std. Again I'd say right on par with the MIM Classic pups from my Antigua, the Roadworns, and the Classic series. Gotta go for now; I'll try to post more later.
