Actually, Keith told me that he did it to compensate for the moons affect on magnetic fields...or was it so the pickups would look straight when you played a Roscoe LG with a strap...oh yeah...now I remember, Brads right!
I think I know how rumors get started! ;)

I have spoked to Keith about a run of Roscoe SKB's with a couple of mods - should start appearing in the not too distant future. basically , we are going for a tilt towards a slightly monre vinatgey tone, shorter scale and different placement of the neck pup, different pup and preramp options...an experiment to see if we can a little closer the the "Fender " sound while retaining all the tone and punch of the current Roscoe- and getting that "standard" slap sound that seems to elude some Roscoe owners... I will be the guinea pig in this experiment..we'll see...

Adrian, you're killing me!!!! What a great idea. Looks like another Roscoe in my future.

What will the scale length be? What are you thinking about for pickups?

I have to say that the slap sound on my Roscoe is unreal. The Demeter pre in my bass is the reason for that. I'd love to have a Roscoe SKB-3006 with custom Dimarzio dual coils, a Demeter preamp and a shorter scale length. Now the thought of that gets me really amped!!!! :hyper:

Thing is, Ive never even played one!

Ive just heard soundclips of fretless roscoes next to a few other incredible basses and the sound was HUGE! I remember that is was a flat EQ test on all of the basses, direct and the Roscoe just sounded perfect. The low end was so thick!

what i meant was, i am assuming responsibility for them, if they turn out sucky, i will be to blame.
By the way, right now, I REALLY own one bass, a fretless i hardly ever gig with!!
My fretted is a loaner and i have an F Bass bn5 fretless, a BN5 on order and a Nordstrand on order... hardly extravagant!! :rolleyes:

So go get on Brad Johnson, ..ok? :D

In case anyone is interested, I saw an LG3000 posted on bassgear.com yesterday. He wants a mere $1000 for it, which is by far the best deal on a Roscoe I've ever seen.

I love my Roscoe, an older LG2005 - unfortunately I don't have a gig right now, but am hoping to join the rotation at my church soon. :hyper: It sounds extremely nice through my Peavey microbass (of all things!) but when it's plugged into my Eden WT300 it about melts me. Liquid corndogs indeed!

Slanted pickups DO affect the tone, regardless of Keith's reasons for doing them that way. Someone pointed out how you pickup the string in a different place relative to the bridge/neck because of this, and this is significant. As you move away from the bridge, you get less bite and more depth. Spector knows this as well, which is why they "reverse the Z" on their P-style pickups as a part of their tone.

I have an LG-3005 and will soon have an SKB-3005 (thanks to Adrian at Access Bass :D ). I'm sure their tone will be mainly different due to the wood diffs, but also somewhat due to the pickup arrangement. I'm also sure the LG would sound significantly worse if the pickups were angled the other way on them.

IMHO, anyway... :)
