At $399 it's an obvious forgery.

At $1399 it's better than any Custom Shop Fender but at 1/3 the price and without the wait or spotty QC.

At $3399 it's boutique, easily as good as my Sadowsky at barely more than half the price.

And in some cases even with quality. In addition, they sell direct, without the middle man. Now: what about Sire? First time Marcus Miller introduced his basses to a few selected fellow bass player, he asked them what was the price according to their perception. They all guessed prices above 2000 usd. And what about Cort (just to say one of 1000) that sell Fender Shaped Objects at around 300/600 usd/eu? They are illegal copiers too? To me forgery is selling something cheap with the clear intention of deceiving the buyer, like counterfeit chinese axes. That carry "Fender" or "Rickenbacker" on the headstock. That is the correct interpretation of the word "forgery". But everyone has his own opinion.

Well, yes that was the magic. Up until that bass Fender had not really managed a decent five string Jazz Bass. The RB V was clunky, heavy and not very attractive but it was one of the best five string basses Fender made at that time. The pickups achieved the goal of producing a "vintage" Fender Jazz bass timbre in a five string bass. Something Fender had struggled to do. I don't need to look up clips I still get to hear one in person when I feel like punishing my back.

I can dig that, but I guess magic has a shelf life, because these days Fender-sounding 5s aren't too difficult to find.

I, for one, don't give a hoot about how close it is to some long-discontinued artist signature model (though I do respect the artist, in this case).

I see a sweet-looking bass from a good factory (assuming it really is Cort) with a pair of JJ humbucking pickups!

If anything, it seems to be a little closer to the 2-pickup Dimension basses (that Fender discontinued WAY too soon...) than the Roscoe Beck Signature
