Roscoe Club

The more I play my 4’s - Classic P and LG3000 - the less I miss my B string. I still “need” it for a couple songs but I’m using more workarounds.

From Friday night’s gig with old Army Band Buddies.

I know light 5s exist, but they're usually priced accordingly.

That’s one thing I love about my Century 5. It’s 7.8 pounds!

Honestly, this has crossed my mind. My Century 5 has been my “go to” bass for over 10 years. There are 2 songs that “need” a B string to do them as recorded. Uptown Funk is one that just doesn’t work on a 4. Maybe with an octave pedal. Idk.

Would the radius bridge on my old LG be Brass or aluminum?
Or maybe he question is, when I order a replacement, should I get brass (better tone?) or aluminum (lighter weight)? The bass is pretty light the way it is.

Anyone else have issues with jacks? So my second Roscoe, the new used one, built around same time as my other new used one 2021, just popped really loud then hiss with a whimper of a signal. It played fine yesterday. I went to plug it in and nothing but a hiss and faint signal. I swapped batteries just like other one and signal came back but then popped really loud then goes to hiss and faint signal. I replaced the jack in the other and no issue since so I'm assuming same scenario here.

They can have the barrel's/socket's finish wear off. It will look gold or brassish. New jack and back in business. It's a once a decade, depending on how much use it gets, maintenance item not a flaw.

Ok wow! well it sounds like a bad batch. Did everyone you know of that has this issue just replace the jack and that was that? So far that's what I did with my first new one and no issues since.

Yep, they either did the replacement themselves or had it done by a technician.

It was posted a couple of months ago about these faulty output jacks.

I find that I really miss the C string when I play my Century Custom 3005. If one of you finds your 6 to be one string too many, contact me and perhaps we can work out a trade.

My want list on a 3006 would include: Custom or Signature models, 35" scale, gloss finish and a fingerboard of darker wood like Pau Ferro, Rosewood, Cocobolo or Wenge and Bartolini electronics.

My 3005 is very close to pristine condition. It has a couple of very tiny marks in the finish on the back which will not show in a photo. It does have the original hard case in near new condition.

I can provide more and better photos if someone is interested in the trade.

There was also an issue years ago with the output Jack grounding out on the shielding paint in the cavity and exit hole. Keith solved that by installing a large heat shrink around the entire Jack. Before you replace the Jack remove the electro-socket screws and pull it out (away from the body) and see if it works there. You may have to cut a few tie straps to get enough wire lead.

I was one of those owners. The shielding paint was too liberally applied from the control cavity down the jack area so a contact that would have been jack to wood drew away current and reduced highs significantly. I am loathe to mention things online because the interweb can be unforgiving. Small businesses are run by humans. Humans make errors. Keith provided his unbelievable regular customer service!!!!
