Roscoe Club

No sweat I love the bass I have and don't think I will have a difficult time finding someone who feels they have their hands full with a six and want a five. I would have gone with a six when I got it but I already had two 6's at the time. Already have a few leads. But thanks Greg.

It's important to note that Roscoe necks are handmade. They vary greatly - I have 4 5 strings, and they're all different.

Same here. 3 of mine are similar, with only slight differences in feel, and one of mine (the JM) is more of a rounded "D" shape. That one is going to go back to Roscoe (if I ever get around to it) to have it reshaped/refinished at some point.

I do remember Jon pointing it out/asking me if I thought that the neck was a bit chunkier on that one at the GTG, but I was so excited to get the damn thing, and to just be at the Roscoe shop, I didn't pay much attention at the time.....;)

While I truly love the tone and playability of my Century Standard 5JJ..... I would like to add a fretted six to the arsenal. If you or anyone you know wants to trade a Roscoe 6 for a 5 let me know. Tried this with no luck in the classifieds. Just thought I would drop a line here to put the bug in someone's ear who might be interested.

Whoa Nellie I would like to completely redact this entire post. I played a gig last night with my two Rocket Music purchased Roscoe 5's. Not only were those two basses a total joy to play, but there are gobs of tonal options I have yet to explore with each of them.

I played with my LARB (loud ass rock band) and played the first two sets with my Century 5JJ that is feather light and so solid and versatile. Played everything from classic country to the first three tracks off of Tres Hombres back to back. My Century 5 was standing tall amongst the wall of guitars and drums. Cut through the mix and gave me that classic warm burpy Roscoe.

For the third set I knew the volume would spike so I pulled out the secret weapon. My lethal RMLE. Chuck Norris gets nervous around this bass. I can't tell you how good this bass sounds. From an open slap/funk solo in Brick House to grooving some Boogie Shoes.... This is a booty wigglin bass.

I would love another 6 but don't need one and my fretless six can fill that need. Maybe I will start saving up for a custom LG 6. :0)

Have to admit I initially dismissed this suggestion, as my mind was already set on speccing up a new bass, but hey, you might be onto something there! :p

If that was all I changed, how much difference would it make? Is the Demeter anything like the Pope?

EG

The Pope has more mid presence and you can get more aggressive than the Demeter. To me the Demeter Roscoe/Bart combo sounds amazing. The Roscoe/Barts have a nice compressed tone with a solid low mid bump, the Demeter with its nice tight lows and glassy highs pushes the Roscoe/Barts nicely

I have the Demeter with Barts in my SKB 3006 FL and I really like the mids in it. I can get that perfect fretless tone. Looking forward to the SKB 3005 I am getting tomorrow with the Pope. I will have four Roscoes all with different pre's in them tomorrow... I will have the JJ with a Bart pre, Aguilar DCB's with the Aguilar OP3, Barts with the Demeter and Delanos with the Pope. I should have a complete idea of the full spectrum of Roscoe possibilities.
