Roscoe Club

Anybody heard from Keith lately? I’ve sent multiple emails in to Roscoe over the last few weeks and have received no response to any of them.
I called the Roscoe contact number on the website as I had a question about replacing the volume pot on my buddy's Century and verifying that the miniature volume for the Bart pre was indeed a 25K pot as the stamp on the back was obscured by solder.

Oddly enough, and to my surprise, Keith answered the phone and we had a very nice conversation about basses and that pot and where I could get one. I tried to make the conversation short for all the obvious reasons, but he was very nice and seemed happy to talk with not a hint of hurrying up the call.

Dunno if anyone else will have that kind of luck. I was quite honored, actually, to speak with Keith.

The Outlaws. A very silly Billy Madison movie!:roflmao:

We’re watching Billy Madison. My son loves it.

One can never go wrong with an Adam Sandler movie. Even Little Nicky still holds up.

Getting in touch with Keith was always a weird game to me. My phone calls were always answered- but the only time he really answered any of my emails was when he emailed me first with pictures of the top woods for my build. Even then, a phone call came first.

He's always been the one to answer the phone. Perhaps that will always be the best way to get in touch.

Hi all. Couple of things here.

I did hear back from Keith finally. He responded to my email.

Secondly, what is a good source to get a hold of some black knobs used on Roscoe basses? Or what is the shaft size I need to be looking for. Especially for the stacked pots. I have some gold knobs I’d like to replace on one of my Roscoes.

Lastly, I put this Roscoe in the classifieds for trade involving a 5 string LG. This bass is really quite unique and sounds fantastic to my ear. But I have another SKB that I think suits me just a little better so considering letting this one go. It might look familiar to some of you. Pretty much like-new condition I’d say with some pretty slick appointments. Definitely easy on the eyes with the quilted ripple effect and faded blue jeans glossy finish. Oh, Nordstrand 3-b preamp with tone control.

Life has been a bit chaotic lately with a move that happened more quickly than we were prepared for. On top of that I’ve been traveling for work much more than usual, in part because of the move. Well, I was finally able to dig the Century JM out of its case and plug it in for about 30 minutes. I really wanted to play through the PF50T, but I have no idea where the 1/4” to speakon cables are, so Orange TB500 it was. That bass sounds so good with Cobalt flats on it! Here she is in my future music room (once the dust settles).

Roscoe knobs are odd, as they are a hodge-podge of regular knobs but with only the bottom collar used from a Bartolini knob set. I don't like any of them so I replaced the knobs on my Roscoes with these:

You sure manage to acquire some nice basses!

I have a full set that came off of my Buckeye Burl with custom wood knobs, but I seems to can’t put my hands on them.

I also have a set of tuning post, that I can put my hands on. These are short Hipshot posts that Gard replaced with the longer version for a Roscoe that had these shorties on that I didn’t like. They are free, but with shipping covered.

I’ve seen and handled the single cut prototype before it was finished and strung. It felt like a Roscoe. Something about the body proportions were different from my very limited exposure to that style of instrument though, in an appealing way. A very Roscoe approach to the design. Not too common to see single cuts in rock settings, but I’d be happy to “rock” a Roscoe one. I also think it’s a clear demonstration, along with things like chambered bodies, that Keith and Kyle are thinking to the future with new offerings and options.

Chambered with an F hole would be pretty interesting

That’s a real nice Kia topped LG.
Ian a bit confused though that it has a 3 piece maple neck with no volute though. It appears to be a STD neck with a headstock cap. At over $5k am I the only one that finds that odd?

Yeah there seems to be increasing mixing/matching... I recently had an SKB standard body (non-contoured), but with wenge/maple/wenge (custom) neck. This looks like custom body and electronics, with standard neck.

"Wish I was younger and could stay on longer, I'm having so much fun working with Kyle. Well, I hope to have a few good years ahead."

Thank you, Keith. Thank you Kyle!

My 2019 LG custom was made almost entirely by Kyle. Keith did the paint, Kyle did everything else.

Kyle is really good. Like, better than his dad, good. He's got the best of both worlds- his dad's knowledge and skill, with youthful exuberance and new ideas.

I hope Keith can retire and enjoy life soon. I know that if he can find a way to hang it up and live on the beach house in NC, he can rest easy knowing that Kyle has the helm.

And everyone should know that Keith (and his wife) love exotic woods too much to walk away completely. I think he'll always have a couple of builds on his bench just because he loves his craft that much. It's the same reason why a sailor will always find time to sail a nice boat on the best day of the year.
