Roscoe Club

I don't know why I think I need anything different than a Roscoe - or even the one I already have. I listened to a "board mix" recording of a service at church from a couple weeks ago. My Koa Century Standard Plus 5 with Bart's into my Radial JDI into the Presonus board. Full, clear, defined. The only thing I'm curious about is a different, more "colored" DI to maybe give more "life" to the direct recorded sound. Maybe it's time to try a REDDI.

Good action shot of me playing my Century Standard PJ. Was taken at the Culture Room in Ft. Lauderdale when we opened for Tab Benoit. Love the bass!

OK guys, I have made a decision. If it isn't broke, I'm gonna quit trying to fix it. Listening to how great my Roscoe CS+5 sounds in recordings and live at church I have decided I'm just going to play it and love it. I already do. I don't need a 2nd fretted bass for variety. If I wanted any variety, it would be fretless. As I still want a 2nd bass, I'm going to order a new CS+5 fretless - much like the one I had a while back and should have kept. Regardless if I use it at church or not (and I probably will) I liked having it just for myself at home to play.

These are the specs:
  • Model: Century Standard Plus 5
  • Body: Mahogany
  • Finish: Oil
  • Preamp: Bartolini 3-Band
  • Pickups: Bartolini Dual J Located Near Bridge ("JB")
  • Neck: 3-Piece Maple Neck
  • Fingerboard: Black Diamond Wood Lined Fretless
  • Hardware: Black
  • Case: Roscoe Single Gigbag
Here's my question for you all. I have narrowed it down to 2 of the tops that Greg has available - unless Gard tosses something else in the mix. One is a Box Elder Burl and the other is a Quilt Maple - my wife's favorite. What do you guys think for the specs above.

I am torn. I've always loved quilt maple, but the burl would be nice, too. Here's a pic of my fretted bass for reference.

What do you all think?

Dang it. Steve - I didn't have my thinking cap on this morning. The Box Elder top is a thick top for a custom model! Sorry about that.

On the bright side, I'm sure we could use that photo to help select a thin top that looks very similar.

That's OK. I should have known, but I thought it was just an slightly more expensive thin top. My wife likes the quilt - as do I. I'm gonna see if Gard has anything to add to the mix as well.
