Roscoe Club

So GardFather, What's the new fretless fingerboard material going to be? Any good info you can share?

Well for right now, we have a somewhat significant stock of black diamondwood, so we're not in "emergency" mode yet on replacing it. I'm nosing about looking for a viable alternative when time permits (which means not at all right now - new model almost ready for prime time; moving the shop; etc, etc). Otherwise, we still offer both ebony and pau ferro, which both work quite nicely, if differently than the diamondwood, tonally.

How much does one gain by replacing the Gotoh with the Hipshots? I believe the Standards come with Gotoh's, right? Never had an issue with mine so I never thought about changing them out.

The Hipshots are a bit lighter, and in a set that might add up to being noticeable for some people - either with the overall weight, or potentially with balance (less weight on the headstock). Honestly, both are first-rate tuners, and work very well. I've got Hipshots on all of my basses (I always take the "scratch & dent" hardware ;) ), but I wouldn't change 'em if they were Gotohs.

I don't plan to. I don't have neck dive or weight issues (well, I have a weight issue but not my basses) and they work fine. Just curious.

Just wanted shout-out a big MERRY CHRISTMAS to all the Roscoeheads out there. Enjoy the season, family, eat too much and spoil some kids.
Oh, and make some time to play that fretless will ya.
Not much family left, never had kids. 2 outta 4 not bad.
I put the fretless down to reply to this post.
It's calling to me again...

Merry Christmas, Chappy Channukah, SuperDuper Solstice -- all that...
