Roscoe Club

The Roscoe family is growing! Just got my third, a beautiful SKB 3005 which I got from a TB'r here. Sweet bass.

Hey guys,

Played a '66 jazz today at Willies in St. Paul, Mn. Birth year bass for me. Was really nice. Don't have $9,500 for it but it was nice.

Anyway, it has flats as did an old P I played a month ago. They feel kind of nice and of course lend a different tone. Got me wondering if/who uses flats on their Roscoe's. I have the 5 and 6 so I thought maybe leave the rounds on my 6 and try flats on the 5.

Cool Steve. I know JohnnyR has a set of flats on 2 of his Roscoe's (I believe one fretted and one fretless) and loves them.
The best sounding flats that I've found are the EB Colbalt Flats. Great tone. I've got a set on my Warmoth fretless (polycoat finger board) and they sound really nice.

Hey Steve,

Yeah, I've got TI flats on my fretted five, and EB Cobalt flats on my fretless five (feel of flats and the sound of rounds). The fretless six will keep it's rounds.

Works great for me.

I've used different flats on various Roscoes over the years but for the past year or so (and for the foreseeable future) my Century with P/J pickups has a set of TI flats. I love the tone and feel, and they can go from aggressive to classic flatwound thump with a change in technique and attack.

I actually bought some of Jeff's lightly used TIs for my Roscoe but never got around to putting them on (maybe when the rounds die), still another way to go. I love everything about TIs but the B, and have considered leaving the round B on when I use them again.
