Roscoe Club

So Anthony Wellington popped in on my gig last night. So what else is there to do......pose with my Roscoe for a photo!

Wow, how cool it that? Hard to top this post. Anthony probably doesn't get within 500 miles of my gigs, let alone 'pop in'. Thanks for posting.

Are there any other Roscoe lined fretless owners experiencing what sounds like fret buzz on a lined Roscoe fretless? Seems the metal lines they use are not flush with the fret/fingerboard and can cause buzzing.

Did this just happen during weather changes, do you keep the bass in a case or on a stand? Do you have gas heat? Just trying to think of some reasons the inserts may have raised. The inserts are made out of aluminum and though they are epoxied in, they will expand and contract differently than the Diamondwood. Keith or Gard can also PLEK your fretless and the price is really reasonable.

I'm not certain when this happened. This is a fairly new bass. I live in Atlanta and we have, so far, had a very mild winter. My heater (Heap Pump) is set at 72 degrees and the moisture in my home where I keep my basses is around 54 %. I have contacted Gard and I'm calling the shop tomorrow. The weird thing is I can drag my finger nail down the fingerboard between the D and G strings and my nail will catch the raised metal lines at a few frets between the 10th and 15th frets, but only between those two strings. My other Roscoe fretless, which is a few months younger does not have this issue. I can barely feel the fret lines on it.

That's the first time I've heard of this happening. The buzz you're hearing occurs only on those two strings below the 10th fret?

Actually the lined frets can be felt beginning at the 10th fret and forward/up the neck, not backward/below the 10th fret.
As an example, I can fret a G note to pitch on the G string at the 12th fret, and if I roll/slide my finger back toward the 11th fret the note doesn't begin to go flat, it begins to buzz before reaching the Gb note. To me it is where the metal fret line is slightly raised from the fingerboard. If I fret the Gb at the 11th fret, it is pitched correctly. But if I roll/slide my finger forward/up just beyond the 11th fret it begins to buzz until my finger moves closer or on to the 12th fret.
This buzzing happens at a couple of other places, but all are where the lined frets are not flush with the fingerboard.

I'd definitely give Keith or Gard a call. Whether it's the lines (wire) or the fretboard, they'll know how to make it right

Well, I'm thinking of having my Century Custom 4 string refinished. It has a pretty thick gloss finish on it, and I really feel that it chokes the sound a bit plus I much prefer the look and feel of the matte/oil finish like on my Century 5. The gloss finish is so sticky, kinda drives me nuts.

Dumb idea? I can deal with it as is of course, but I sure miss that matte finish. Who's a good refinisher that could do this?

I would have Roscoe do it.

Not a dumb idea at all! As a matter of fact, I have a MTD 535 oil finish that I'm thinking about having refinished with a solid color to get finger nail grooves in the body fixed. I was wondering about how this would impact the tone wood of this bass.
