Played another gig with the headless last night and all I can say is, if you don't have one yet, get one! This is the most comfortable bass I've ever played, and the most fun by far. Lots of people want to check it out. I was psyched to finally have a bass with a true neck pickup, but the bridge pickup with the mids dimed -- forget about it!
The only problem I have now is, my JB is spending a lot of time in the gig bag. And that bass is killer! Too many options!!

Finally gigged by recently Plek'd Roscoe out this past weekend. It was an IEM gig, which initially bummed me out but it actually was the best sound that I've experienced in the "No amp" world of gigging. As good as the Roscoe played prior to the Plek, I'll have to say that it was even more effortless to play now. Such a nice low and even feeling setup.
I was also really stoked about how the mahogany body/bosse top coupled with the purple heart FB sounded in the mix. So much nice low end growl with that combination. and I've definitely fallen back in love with the Bart/Bart combo.
Sad that I've had that bass almost 2 years and only gigged it out 3 times.:( I guess that's an indicator of just how occupied that I've been with other things in life.

Hey but regardless of how often I'm playing these days, it brought a huge smile to my face to play the Roscoe out and I'd definitely recommend getting the Plek done. IMO, even if your bass is really new, and it got the Plek done when built, it's still a good idea to have another one done after all the woods get use to being a bass (instead of a tree; 1-2 years of break in time).

Yeah, that was my reaction after having my basses PLEK'd. It was an eye opener on how an amazing bass that played so well could be improved upon. Like you, I definitely recommend both suggestions, getting it now and checked later to see if a touch up is needed on a newer bass. My SKB3005 has an Ebony board and I had a few fret sprouts, it just plays amazing though it has been sitting in the case as I am breaking in my Custom Classic. :)

I've debated sending my 6 in to be PLEK'd as is a great bass but gen C string always seems a little high (action wise) compared to the other strings but it still plays great. Trying to decide if I want to spend that $$ when I'm debating a classic 5PJ, need to buy a synth for the band and Grace needs a better violin.

Sounds like you're really enjoying the Roscoe Jazz Clint. Certainly looks nice!:)
I'm looking forward to the Middle GA GTG this fall. I really want to see Dave's headless Roscoe in person.
we should be announcing the GTG date soon. Hopefully some of you Roscoeheads can make the trek to GA and join in.

I've been getting pretty busy with gigs lately (two bands now), so I'm hoping this is scheduled on a weekend which I'm not working, so I can make it out! I know that the weekend of Sept 15-16 I'm busy, so far that's all I have in September, and nothing in October yet.

I wish I could make one of these, I will be in Nashville Sept. 20-24 and I have a TBD meeting in Chicago in October.

1. New Violin (shows wife you are thoughtful of others and should be rewarded with a Roscoe PJ)
2. New 5PJ (you will not play the 6 for a long time once you get the PJ so you can wait until a Roscoe GTG for the PLEK.

I'm in Minneapolis today trying basses. I wish I were a "Fender" or other guy, but those necks just feel foreign to me.
If I want a passsive "Fender-esque" bass it'll have to be a Roscoe.

Try as I might, other than for straight ahead jazz gigs (I use my G&L that my wife bought me for those gigs and there are getting to be a few) I am not a 4 string guy. I need and use that B string.

(Un)fortunately, I've been in communication with Gard and have a passive 5PJ all spec'ed out. Just have to pull the trigger.

There's still that violin and $500 for a synth for the cover band, but I think my wife is warming to the idea that I'm a Roscoe guy and a passive 5 is in my future.

All this talk of SE-US GTG's and PLEK have me working the logistics in my mind.

I like my fretted Roscoe but there has always been something whack with the preamp.
It's almost as if the pickups were wired out of phase - I get almost nothing until I hit one small spot in the balance pot.
So I leave it there, but obviously I'm leaving a lot of tone options on the table.
AFAIK it's the standard Bartolini pre - it looks just like the one in the fretless.

Looking on suggestions if I wanted to make a change.
The DarkGlass ToneCapsule is tempting since I like their other products.
I'm using D'Addario tapes for that "P-Bass with flats" vibe mostly but with 2 pickups and 3-band EQ I expect more versatility is possible. So - DarkGlass - anyone done this? Pope? Audere? Maybe the Bartolini would be actually be fine if I could get to the bottom of its pickup selector weirdness...

I'd really like our elec tech to have a peek under the hood on that fretted bass. I'm betting on some sort of phasing issue, one wire crossed somewhere....

GTG here in GSO is hopeful for fall, maybe....anyone interested in starting to brain-storm one? :)
