Roscoe Club

I am so broke right now. Sleep studies, BiPAP machines, school fees, and I haven't been paid in a while. First payday for the year is Sep 15. It sucks.

Too many wants. Classic Custom passive 5 PJ or JJ, fretless, new Genzler rig...it never ends.

There is someone who expressed interest in my 6, maybe trading my old fretless, but I'm not sure he'd give that sweet fretless up, and my wife has insisted I get buried with my current Roscoes so.... :(

Could be. I'm definitely worth more dead than alive. She'd get over it if I traded/sold my 6, but it would mean quite a few cold nights. IDK, I have bought this bass 3 times so there's something about it. I play it even though I don't always use/need the C string so...

I haven't posted anything in a LONG while. But I was doodling around this evening( while simultaneously thinking of how bad my gators offense was yesterday) trying to come up with a solo sound for a smooth jazz band I play with. Running my roscoe short scale through a nano pog and ebs dynaverb. Bass is in passive mode, which is super cool for some affects. It's directly from the amp to my phone recording. So not great quality. But this cracks me up. A totally traditional roscoe sound...

I could certainly tell it was a Roscoe (not by the sound but by the momentary partial glimpses of the head stock). :D

Sorry 'bout your Gators too. Still plenty of season left though.

Yeah, Mrs. Crash told me I have been spending too much money so she requested I change my spending habits. Basically she wants us to take the 3 grandchildren and their parents to Disney including airfare and hotel.

I guess I could sell the Aguilar JJ hum cancelling pickups that came with my Roscoe Classic for around $120 that way I would be spending less than $200 on the new pickups. Hmm, I also have a 4 knob 3 band Bartolini preamp I removed from my LG from when I installed the Uni-Pre. I should be able to get $200 for pickups and preamp. I probably have some other stuff I can part with as well like an Eden WTDI and a Rolls PM351.

This is a bit off topic but I got a new toy (Novation Launch 49 keyboard) for my birthday last week and got a chance yesterday afternoon and this morning to play with it some.
The result was a new recording and of course I used my Roscoe 3005 for the bass part. I have also gotten a new Focusrite Audio interface and upgraded to Reason 9.5 since I last recorded and posted anything. Just in case anyone's interested everything required to get setup recording at home (one track at a time) cost around $500 (not counting the PC). Pretty cheap way to get into home recording and start having some fun!
I played around with Reason and figured out how to change the tempo during the song and I also used the pads on the new keyboard to write the drum part. Much easier than just using the keys on a keyboard or the PC keyboard. The new version of Reason also has Soft Tube Amps so I used the bass Soft Tube Amp for the bass track. It can get some pretty cool tones.

Hi guys,

I posted about getting my Roscoe Century Custom 5J a few weeks ago and I have some questions after playing for a few weeks. Mahogany body with Redwood Burl top. Aguilar OBP-3 preamp with Nordstrand NJ5FS pickups which replaced the original Barts. The bass plays great and I love the neck but I don't really like the sound. The signal is so hot that it's over driving my amp and it's hard to get a clean sound without turning the bass volume down real low. It looks like it has DR strings that are steel rounds. Could this be the problem? Maybe pickup height? I've tried making them lower but they seem to be as low as I can get them. I'm having this problem with both pickups when I isolate them.

I'm not sure what to try other than maybe installing some nickel strings or reinstalling the Barts. Is it typical that the preamp would be so hot?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
