Hey Gard, just wondering have ye ever done any customisation on a Roscoe/Bart pre on a new build? Is it possible to get the 3 EQ bands as trim pots in the back cover (like the gain is) rather than the knobs on the front and just have volume and blend on the front then? Just wondering as I have a terrible habit of randomly checking the tone controls to see that they're all centered (so I always tend to run it flat) and that the volume is up!

Sadly, finding the trim pot style potentiometers that would function as the bass/mid/treble controls is impossible, so, no, we can't really do that.

Good question though, I might have been tempted to use the same theory, as I like the whole "less is more" vibe....and tend to not use my tone controls once they're in the "right spot" for a room.

Ya I think I'd use them a bit more if I could set them and forget them and then not have to worry about them moving during a gig.

Just this year, I have gotten over keeping it all flat and checking the knobs all the time. Now I have been setting the controls on my Century 6 to pretty radical settings, even tweaking during songs, and I have my Smoothie Compressor set so that the tone and balance changes don't affect the volume hardly at all. I have even been (gasp!) Cutting the Bass EQ, and the volume! Wide range of tones in there that fit easy into a mix.

I have an SKB3005 and an LG3005, I keep them both housed in an old LA Bass Gear Double Undercover Gig Bag. I have had this bag for around 15 years and it protects well. I also have my Roscoe Classic and an SX J bass, both are too tall for the Undercover gig bag so I bought a used Mono Double Gig Bag which I keep those in. If I am only taking one bass with me I use the TKL Gig Bag that came with my Classic or one of the Roscoe Hard Cases.

On this topic, I did some searching / comparing the fit in bags I already have. The LG body is so down-sized, it was swimming in a bag I got from Tobias years ago - and any bag made to fit a Fender-style bass is just going to be too big IMO. I found an Ibanez gig bag on MF - must be a new product because it's not in stock yet and no Ibanez logo, which is a plus:

The dimensions are much closer to the LG because most of the Ibanez basses are smallish - the dims are:

• Interior overall length : 45.67"
• Interior lower body width: 13.39"

MF has the 45-day return policy, so if for some reason it doesn't fit well, it's going back. I'll report back on this when I get it...

dedpool, we didn't change anything, not sure why one "feels different", because the spec is the same across the line. Hm. There may be SOME very small variation, and that would indeed be related to the "hand made" part of things - the bodies are machined to a specific thickness, then things are hand-sanded afterward, so some may be thicker, some may be thinner, but we're talking about differences measured in thousandths of inches.

The difference between them was more noticeable than a few thousandths. I recall measuring the body depth on the old one being around 1.8 while the newer one is around 1.73, which is about a 2mm difference. Not complaining at all as I prefer a thinner body anyway, just thought I'd ask if there was a spec change.

Now what about the pleking and fall-away I asked about?

I'm sure you love your Bongo 5. I loved lots of basses until I played a Roscoe 5. Now it's over. I have tried to "make" myself play other basses, tell myself I'll get used them eventually, and I probably would. I played a Geddy Lee jazz for a while and I really liked it. I could "get by" but as my wife insists, why? I have 2 beautiful Roscoes and am basically GAS free - except for a classic Roscoe.

I look, but not nearly as much as I used to, and really only to kill time. I could never buy another bass and be perfectly happy and capable to do any gig with my Roscoe Century 5.

We can fix that! Load everything up and come on down to the Georgia Bass GTG in Oct.

Hopefully Gard will bring a couple of those Roscoe F-Style basses with him. Lot's of Fender Style bass players in these parts. Maybe he can put Keith in a case and bring him too!

body w/white pickguard, a maple fretboard w/dots,
passive, but routed to accept a preamp if desired.

I've been known to "piddle" at woodworking occasionally.

I'd not be at all surprised at "around" 0.070 inches total difference in body thickness. That's about one pass through a planar. Could have been necessary to made sure a grain tear was completely cleared or to remove coloration or grain spur. Could have been necessary because of another part of the build.

I'd chalk that difference up to attribute of being hand-made. Just one more thing that makes it one of a kind. Fit, workmanship and finish on all my Roscoes is as good as anything on the market. They all have their own "feel", but none were made on an assembly line on a CNC machine either.

It's all good.
