Roscoe Club

Concerning my custom order after 12 weeks in: just got an email from Keith. I feel like I'm at the top of the roller coaster, ready for the ride down. I'm fine with the time schedule so far. (Note: I just thought I'd give someone thinking of placing an order an idea of the work situation at the Roscoe shop. Not bad at all, really.)
Post pictures as you receive them!

Some cool shots from a cool stage, featuring my century standard plus PJ! The current electronics are a custom-ordered Delano P (suggested by Frankie at BBG after I told him my preferences), the original Aggie J, and the Bart 3-band from my SKB. Great tone with the pickups blended, or each one soloed.

Thanks for those pics. What an awesome stage! Can you share some details of the gig?

Sure! It was in Bollingbrook, IL on July 3rd with my band Billy Croft and the 5 Alarm (he's a firefighter). We are a country band, almost always covers. Same lineup of us perform as Deluxe Edition, and that is more of a wedding/event band, covering 70s-current rock/pop hits. We often close out our country band set with a few pop songs sprinkled in, crowd-pleasers like Uptown Funk, Footloose, etc.

The concert that night was broadcast on live (local) TV, FB live, and even though we have our own sound guy, they had sound and light techs and the whole 9 yards there. Biggest green room I've ever seen since college, too. It was a very nice night.

So we played there on the 3rd, then played a casino on the 4th of July (Rivers Casino), and the 6th we had a campground gig out west. Tomorrow we play at Brookfield Zoo, and Sunday some park district gig...Deerfield, I think. @Fred312b , you know most of these Chicagoland digs!

You full time bassists wear me out! Good for you. Working and pleasing people is what it's all about! Thanks for sharing.:)

I’m not sure but I think your bass was the first Roscoe bass I ever owned. Very good bass.

It's mostly like this in summer and fall, and just a few per month in-between. I'm actually a k-12 music teacher (which allows me to do this in the summer) and playing at churches is my other paid gig. I really do appreciate the spot I'm in that allows me to do these 3 jobs and still be a family man. :)

It is one and the same! Super light, awesome to play. I really don't care for the Aggie pickups/pre with the rest of my setup, so swapping in the Delano and Bart made sense for me. I jumped on it when I saw it available again, Shane!

You’re crisscrossing the Chicago area.... Rivers casino is pretty close to my house, never been but driven by it plenty. Let me know next time you’re there, and Deerfield isn’t too bad either (up 94)... if you’re a country band and you ever play the Firewater Saloon in Edison Park (Chicago) let me know- that’s super close (and in a cop/firefighter neighborhood, you guys would go over well there ;) ).

Lol

I love the name of the band!
Cool gig shots too. You definitely need a Roscoe Classic (or a Fender style bass) for that gig! It would match your amp nicely too!

Presuming that the music and bass tone are smokin' I trust that steelin4u's bass selection is just fine . .

I did think about that, and for a while last year I was rocking the aged white Roscoe Classic 5 PJ. I ultimately decided to move away from it because it was loaded with Aguilars and the nut/neck/bridge width felt like I was slow on it. I think the body shape had to do with it, as 5 string P or J bodies feel huge to me, and add the 35" in...forget it. The cocobolo century is also a welcome 2 lbs. lighter.

It's actually a running joke that I can only play 'wood-colored' basses. The drummer posted this on my FB account the other day:

Doesn't that kind of describe a lot of us? :roflmao:

P.S. - the amp on stage is the guitarist's head and iso cab. I'm completely ampless in this band.

So my first gig is tonight with the Roscoe.
I'll keep you updated.

After playing it at home for several hours, the only thing I can think of that I feel like I'm going to miss tonight is a tone knob, but that shouldn't be too hard to add some time in the future, right?

So explain why you'll be missing a tone knob? Do you mean just "the knob"?
If so, I've got many laying around ... and will be glad to send you one.

A tone knob is just an LPF- you can get a Broughton pedal version, and boom, no compromise. Or get his LPF/HPF and have an HPF to use as well.

I'm so used to working the tone knob on all my other basses. It's second nature to me, and I think a tone knob would be a handy addition. Added flexibility that you can't get from an active preamp.

I have a LPF already.
But you're not wrong.
