Wow, a second hand [Invalid or Expired Link Removed] at Watanabe Music in Japan. Their price is 540,000JPY but deduct 8% sales tax for an international sale for 496,800JPY.
As of now, USD4562.08... Pretty pricey but I can't imagine there are very many of them. For me, for now, 7 is quite enough, thank you.

Looks like a beast! Their price is 540,000JPY but deduct 8% sales tax for an international sale for 496,800JPY. You can use xe.com for an estimated cost in your currency. No idea of shipping, but I expect this is probably quite heavy.

Wow! Check out that neck and the width of that custom bridge! My left hand started cramping just looking at it.:)

I think I've landed a jet on an aircraft carrier that was narrower than that neck.....

Question -

I need to add my incoming Century 3005 to my music insurance policy. I'm trying to figure out the actual replacement value based on today's prices. I see Roscoe's 2017 price list and the bass comes out to $5230 according to that, but I'm not sure what the actual street price would be (certainly not what I paid, it was priced to sell). From what I can tell, it looks like about 20% is the difference between retail and street pricing...does that sound about right? Or has the pricing changed and what's on the list is what you pay now?

Send Keith an email and ask what it would cost to replace/what would he insure it for.

I just insured my new LG 3005 for 6,000- as if I wanted a completely new build with the options and wood that it has would come out to about that much.

Spill the beans, Matt!
Not much to spill. A little over a month ago (when my basses were "in theory" due to be complete since I too ordered from his existing in-stock bodies) I was communicating with Keith and he said that the shop was pretty jammed with basses that they were trying to complete for customers. He offered to "rush" mine if I really needed them but I told him that he could hold off a couple weeks on mine since I was going out of state on a family vacation for a while and wouldn't be back until the beginning of July. I told him I've never had a good experience with anything that was "rushed to completion". He was appreciative and said that the basses should be ready to go about the time I got home.
When I returned and emailed him about the status of my basses I got the classic "a couple more weeks" reply. "Waiting on parts, pre-amps, pickups, etc."

I emailed him again three days ago wondering if there were any updates. No response.

I'm not really griping because I know they'll be worth it in the end but every custom bass I've ever ordered has ended up using nearly the same formula:

Estimated time to completion X 2 + "a couple more weeks".....

Thanks! I wanted to ask here before bothering the shop, but will certainly make contact if needed. I'm doing the same as you, I want to make sure I could completely replace the bass with a new build with the same options if something happened to it. If you went with 6k, sounds like $5230 for mine would be about right.

I agree. There’s no sense in rushing things just because we’re anxious to get it. The shop is a small one, so it takes as long as it takes.

My order is going to take even longer than usual because it is not an existing in-stock body, and it is not just cutting out the shape and carving the Custom body. After it is cut and carved, Keith is going to take a wire brush to the body for an exposed grain look. That will take some extra time.

In the meantime, the classified section is not a safe haven I should be hanging out in.:laugh:

The classified section is NEVER a safe place to hang out!:D

Well, it's here and it's fantastic! Good time to arrive, too - gigs tonight, Friday, and Saturday. Put Elixirs on it, tweaked the action and intonation, and we're ready to roll. So far, I'm digging it set flat and/or just ran completely passive. Great jazz bass growl and even though I've historically preferred true single coils, these Aguilar humcancelling pups are very nice sounding.

Man that’s a gorgeous bass and even prettier than the original pics. Anxious to hear your report on how it does in a full band setting.

I finally get to join this club!!

So the full story is thus:
Bass Emporium in Austin, TX carried Roscoe, and just about everything else. I loved that place. Practically lived there.
And I enjoyed most ever Roscoe that I played, but never had the cash, and every one I played was ~80% of the way perfect for me.
Then one day a Roscoe came in with Nordstrand Big Singles and the normal Roscoe Bart pre, and it was magical.
Still couldn't afford it.

Then, Roscoe launched the Century Standard line. The Black Onyx finish with maple neck was the sexiest thing i'd ever seen.
Still couldn't afford it, though.

So 3 weeks ago i stumbled upon a Century Standard on Reverb with Nordy Big Singles installed, and a decent price. Still couldn't afford it, though.
The next week, the seller dropped it by a couple hundred, making it harder to resist.
Then, last week, the seller dropped it to a price where it was NOT going to sit for very long.
So I made an offer and got it!!

UPS tells me it should be here today.

Thanks!

After really only gigging some form of StingRay 5 the past few years, it’ll be a change of pace for sure. Beyond the different sounds, I think the biggest transition will be the different necks. I had completely forgot about how wonderful the Roscoe necks are. I get what everyone has mentioned about the upper horn on the Century, too, now. I thought the SKB was comfy, but the Century is where it’s at for me I think.
