Roscoe Club

I'm so used to working the tone knob on all my other basses. It's second nature to me, and I think a tone knob would be a handy addition. Added flexibility that you can't get from an active preamp.

I have a LPF already.
But you're not wrong.

Ah.

I was going to go with a passive tone control on my LG 5 PJ- but with the configuration I wanted they'd have to drill another hole for an active passive switch- and Keith wasn't too keen on the idea as he's had tough luck with drilling spalt after the fact, or I'd have to give up the mid controls and from the 3 band to the 2 band Bart preamp.

In the end, mid controls won out for me, so I kept the active/passive option with a push/pull volume knob and the 3 band EQ. I'm glad I did as I really like the mid freq control on the bart 3 band. I figure if I miss the tone control I'll add the LPF to my small collection of pedals.

You could replace the vol pot with a concentric pot and do this ...

Yeah, that's where I am.
Thinking about a stacked vol/tone knob and wondering how I could squeeze an active/passive switch in there somewhere.
But my wife will tell you that I have a habit of trying to fix that which isn't broken.
So i'll keep it as is, play it for a while, and if I really feel like something's missing, address it further down the road.

So my first gig is tonight with the Roscoe.
I'll keep you updated.

After playing it at home for several hours, the only thing I can think of that I feel like I'm going to miss tonight is a tone knob, but that shouldn't be too hard to add some time in the future, right?
You know what I did with every bass that needed a 'tone' knob? I sold it. That was never a problem with a Roscoe, though.;)

It's all good, Trevor. It seems most of us are seeking that magical tone from our expensive boutique basses. And then I hear Mary Kay (is that her name?) on a Beach Boys record and think 'she found it without even looking'. What bass was that on 'Good Vibrations'? A Danelectro Longhorn came close to that sound for me.

Picked this up the other week off Reverb. 2017 build but I believe it’s just sat in the store. I had watched it for a while and they had a sale and knocked $500 off and I couldn’t resist.

Ash body
Bolivian rosewood board
OBP1 pre with Aguilar HCs.

I was pretty skeptical about the Aguilars and even bought a set of Duncan Antiquities to put in but the Aggies are staying for now. Been using it on the road for the last 2 weeks. Dig it quite a bit.

Every time I convince myself that I don't really want a classic custom J- I see a beautiful, sexy, amazing one like this- and the GAS starts all over!

Enjoy!

Nice!

So far, I’ve been very impressed with the Aguilar HC jazz pups mated to the OBP-1 in my Century 5. It’s a good combo.

Great looking Classic Adam!
That one's decked out nicely too! Love the color.
