Roscoe Club

The sound? - Hoppah!

:D

To quote Larry Bird, "It ain't bragging if you can back it up.."

Steve, all your recent basses that I've seen on TB are fantastic and capable of getting multiple tones, sounds and feels between your fingers, the amp and strings. Re-visit the Century bass you are selling, I am sure that bass can take care of 99% of all gigs that come your way. Jon is on to something...., sometimes you have to step back and re-evaluate, let the dust settle before you make a move.

My 2 cents of advice and I hope it comes across as friendly feedback. Apologies otherwise.

No apology needed, Pete. I welcome all comments. That's why I post. I have been experimenting. I'm liking the neck pup soloed with a touch of 800 mid boost. Very "P" like.

It's not a matter of handling the gigs at all. I only play at church these days so....

I am trying to reduce some debt. My Koa Century 5 is an amazing bass and I'd hate to see it go, but I also want to not live on such a tight string money - wise.

FWIW, I've been showing my girlfriend all the Roscoe basses for sale and she likes (the looks) of yours the best.

Steve, I used to do this all the time... buy a boutique bass and then sell it to pay off debt(or at least sell it so that I have extra cash and just use my Fenders). What I've learned is if you find "a good one" keep it and it will pay for itself in time. That Koa Century is killer! I'd keep it for sure.

+1 The only way the sale would make sense is if the OP makes an unbreakable promise to himself to NEVER buy another bass. Otherwise, he will be losing money by doing this (again:))

Well, my in box isn't full of offers to buy it so I'll probably be playing this for a while - not a bad thing.

I have savings to pay off a good chunk of a card. The sale of the bass would finish it off, which is why I listed it. I plan to use my savings to pay off what I can for now and deal with the sale - or not - of my Koa Century later.

This was ordered with the intention that it would be a "forever" bass for me. My wife doesn't think there will ever be a "forever" bass for me. This should be it. It's in the top 2-3 of all the basses I've owned. The other was that fretless I sold to try Jon's 6 - that I also sold. :help:

My wife says the same thing. Maybe I need to start listening to her. :hmm:

I think thats a good move. Even if you're only using the bass primarily for Praise and Worship its still such an excellent tool. I've always found a bass with Bartolini Soap bars to be perfect for that style(especially with how clear the Roscoes sounds down low).

I would love to grab a Century 5 in black onyx sometime in the near future. This thread definitely causes GAS!

True! I meant more in Steve's case. If I was only playing in Church and not gigging as much I would still have zero issues playing/owning an expensive bass like a Roscoe personally. However like always YMMV!

I knew what you meant. I just couldn't resist having a little fun with you.:)

If the truth be known, I'd much rather use my Roscoe in church than in the dives that I played in the 70's and 80's with my Fenders, Musicman & G&L basses! They all ended up smelling like cigarette smoke were quite prone to being knocked over!

Oh, I have no problem using my Roscoe anywhere, or owning it. It's just that it's the only thing of any value that I could sell to help reduce debt. I think realistically at this time I can only afford one "boutique" bass and that's fine.

I am still curious about a 6, and found one for $499 that wasn't too bad at all. Not a Roscoe, but probably good enough for my noodling, experimenting, etc. if I decide to go that way.

Whatever happens, I'll still have the Koa Roscoe to "fall back" on. I don't think my wife will let me sell it - no matter how well intentioned my motives are.

Very true Joe. There's a couple of dive bars I rotate through. Between the smells, clumsy drunks, and the brave ones that think the bands instruments are theirs, it gets old.

A couple weeks ago a clearly drunk man came up to the stage while we were on break and was staring at our stuff. I was watching because I like to keep an eye out for my roscoe. Then the dude comes and and states - "I was just thinking whether I should play those drums or not." I don't respond well to people like that, but I stayed quiet. He was politely declined by the drummer. Then the guys drunk wife comes up and thinks she can persuade the drummer and says- " come on. You get to play the drums all the time. Let my husband play." They didn't take no for an answer and kept badgering the drummer and he's a nice guy that didn't deserve it. At that point I jumped in the conversation and asked her if I could get the keys to her car and take it for a spin. She looked at me like I was crazy and said no. I then said " But you get to drive all the time and I've never driven YOUR car. Come on just let me drive you car". She was then somehow offended and they left. I was pleased.

At church/gospel gigs I have NO issues with stuff like that.

I bet everyone here has a similar story.

Good one Keith! That was pretty quick thinking on your part! I'll have to remember that one.

Great point Joe. I agree with your post. As someone who only owns nice basses, I have to "pick and choose" which bass makes the appearance on each gig: bar, night club or festival. Recently our band had a CD release party and that afternoon my wife said, "Make sure you bring a good bass to the gig, there will be a lot of people here tonight..." I said "I only own high end basses!"
:D

So, now I need to buy a crappy bass to play at our dive bar gigs (which we are trying to eliminate each week!).

Hi all. Well technically I just became a Roscoe owner. I just sent payment for fellow member jdy's Century Signature 4. The gas won out again!
Exihibition grade quilted maple top over swamp ash. Wenge fingerboard.
I don't mean to jump the gun, I'm just excited. :)

What a great retort! I am getting ready to go to a local club right now. All I ask is that no one falls into our gear!
;) I never do when I am at clubs enjoying other bands:)
Got my first Roscoe on the truck headed my way.
Don't need any other presents this season.
