Roscoe Club

This club only makes me realize just how badly I need a Century J6 in my life... It'll happen eventually.

This club is a dangerous place to be. I'm trying to sell mine to reduce debt but the market is really soft so I'll probably just keep it. Not a big deal, it's an amazing bass. :bassist:

Problem is, since I'm probably keeping it, I'm looking to get another - probably fretless - to pair up with it. Not the best way to reduce debt. :hmm:

And, as the market is soft, there are a bunch of great deals in the classifieds. :help:

Didn't you just sell a fretless. Dude, seriously, you need to stop and take a breath,

If you don't want to wait and aren't super particular about specs (they'll all sound like a Roscoe, give or take) there are a ton of Roscoes for sale at fantastic prices in the classifieds.

I'm trying to sell and reduce debt, but I am more tempted to buy another bass because of the deals to be had. 6 string for under $2,000…amazing.

Yeah i know there are, and I would absolutely buy used, without hesitation.

But, I am looking for a LG 3000 (or a 34 inch scale 5-string) - those don't seem to appear frequently. The only one I've seen lately was a maybe a little to "gaudy" for my tastes (the top woods chosen), even then, there is only two or three that have even popped up in the last few months.

a question for those with 5-strings. first, what gauge B are you using? and second, was anyone using narrow (17-17.5mm) spaced 5'ers before getting a roscoe and did the wider spacing take much time getting used to it?

Before Roscoe I played 17.5 and always thought it was too tight. So, ten years later I got a 19 and it felt too wide. I have owned three Roscoes and my fourth is being built. 18.3 seems to be my Goldilocks Zone.

I believe Keith has a custom set of D'ads that he uses on all new 5, 6 and (occasionally) 7 string basses wight a gauge of .128.

I have since used the regular D'ad EXL 170 SL and the B string is .130.

Spacing wise, the 18.3 MM works for me. My Modulus basses are 17 something and swapping back between the two brands and sizes is a non-factor (to me anyway).

I was playing a G&L before Roscoe. I greatly prefer the standard roscoe 5 string spacing and it did not take any time to adapt to.

I use either a .120 or .125 B string depending on the type of string, usually mated to a .040-.100 or .040-.095 G through E

.125 hi beam. The stiffness of the neck and pickup placement eliminates the need for a huge B string, wonderful.

I came from 19mm land, so the Roscoe neck feels like a toothpick!

Another +1 on the .125 B string ....

I'm one of the few that still uses the stock Roscoe D'Addario strings. I've tried everything out there but in the end I always end up going back to the D'Addario XL's. Love the midrange tone they bring and the feel of the string. Hard to beat the price too!:)

+2 on the D'Addarios. I've tried just about every big name string out there and I keep coming back to the stock ones. I think it is mostly the feel to me. The tension is right there in that ever elusive Goldilocks zone.

However, I'm probably going to put some of those DR neon orange strings on my new orange headless. I just think it will look too cool not to.
