Roscoe Club

It is has been a while since I have been on TalkBass, work has been grueling. I am down to only one Roscoe bass now, it is my Classic Custom 4 JJ. I am saving for a 5 string Roscoe P and if Mrs. Crash hadn't made plans to take our adult children and grandchildren to Disney in May, I would already have one. Honestly, I can't complain, she is the least materialistic person I have ever met and when she does spend money it is usually on the grandchildren and I spend more money on her than she spends on herself. That said, I am a schemer so of course I am still scheming on how to get one sooner than later. :D

It is funny how things go, I am back to Jazz and P basses. Though I love the Century models and think they are some of the most beautiful basses, the tone of the Classic Custom has been the tone I have had in my head since my first J bass in 1978. Not to say if I found a Century with ebony fingerboard and a Demeter preamp I wouldn't be tempted.

So, I am down to a awesome playing SX Jazz bass with flats, I Fender Elite V jazz and a MIM P bass.

I’m right there with you Crash (except I lean more toward the P and P/J basses; although I do have a Jazz 4 that I really love). Actually all of my Fenders are 4 bangers. Just not needing the low B these days. Of course I still have my 3005 Signature SKB 5. And it’s not going anywhere.

I certainly like the looks of the Roscoe Classic series basses, but I feel like I have the best of both worlds with the Century 5JJ: the great looking, feeling, and playing form-factor of a modern Roscoe, with the classic tones and voicing of 60s-spaced jazz pickups.
I’m with you. I like the look of the classic series, but I’m afraid the neck won’t be like my Century and I love that neck. I’ve debated having Keith make me a Century Standard 5 with a P in the “sweet spot” and a passive volume and tone control with the usual side input jack. Best of both worlds. 5 string passive P that feels like my Century 5.

Sorry I couldn’t figure out how to crop it, but I thought it was a nice shot of the Roscoe.

Cool picture Steve!
